When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
I've probably done this thread before, but I can't remember. (sue me I'm getting older) When did you start being a fan of your favorite team? What drew you to them?
Myself: I was born into a Southern family (I was born two days before Southern beat Jackson St in 1976), I started going to games with my family by the time I was one. Been a Jag for life.
Montana - I've always had a secret crush on the Griz dating back to them beating Nicholls St in 1996. My fan fo hire thread cemented the love

From birth my mom and dad are both SU grads, all four of my dads brothers are SU grads, three of his six sisters are SU grads two married SU grads. So at family gatherings discussions about Jaguar and SWAC football would go on for days (still do).

Funny thing is my dad played at Valley in the 60's, moved to BR and fell in love with Southern, he's a part of the sideline committee that's at every practice.GAD_SU wrote:From birth my mom and dad are both SU grads, all four of my dads brothers are SU grads, three of his six sisters are SU grads two married SU grads. Sometime in the late 1969, remember watching the Bison beat the Griz in their bowl game to win the National Championship #3.

Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
Grew up in Greenville when Furman was actually in Greenville and could lay claim to being Greenville's team (especially in basketball) even though Clemson was still more popular. So I was a Furman fan as long as I could remember. Would attend one or two Clemson games a year and one or two Furman games. In basketball it was all Furman so that is probably what made me a fan. The only Clemson game I would see is if and when they came to Greenville To play which back then, they did.

Wasn't that the year that a large # of Griz players were ineligible (for that game) because of some ridiculous rule?Gil Dobie wrote:Sometime in the late 1969, remember watching the Bison beat the Griz in their bowl game to win the National Championship #3.
Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
It may have been, so Montana must have been cheating and was probably not the second best team. They probably didnt deserve to be there at all?
I became a fan in 2003 when the D2 BISON went into Washington Griz for the win!! What fun!!

Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

I'll have to check the Kolpack book as I was too young to remember anything outside of watching the game.100%GRIZ wrote:Wasn't that the year that a large # of Griz players were ineligible (for that game) because of some ridiculous rule?Gil Dobie wrote:Sometime in the late 1969, remember watching the Bison beat the Griz in their bowl game to win the National Championship #3.

Father played football at Missouri State in the late 70s, so it's a family thing as well

Early '90s, not sure of the exact year (the earliest specific game that I can still remember is 1993 against Jacksonville State for whatever reason). I would of been about 7, or 8 or so so my memory is pretty hazy back then...
Grew up in Missoula, right by the U-district, parents live in Missoula, parents went to UM, etc. So it's not like not being a UM fan was ever an option
We sat in the grass South endzone every game.

JC transfers were ruled ineligible for the championship game two years in a row.
Many starters didn't play from two undefeated teams
The next year they ruled that it was now OK

Fall of '85 when I showed up for my freshman year. After graduating it slid back to the recesses of my mind for several years until I made a point of getting back on the bandwagon. And trust me, for a long time it wasn't easy being a FlameFan. There weren't many of us.

I was born and raised a Wyoming Cowboy, and a UW alum.
As for the Griz.. started following them when I was at UW in 2001, caught them on ESPN a few times, then moved to Missoula after college, got my season tickets, and here we are.

MSU alum. Graduated in '09.
Before I attended though, Mr.Blitz was a Cat fan when we were in HS, got me hooked on BobcatNation before I started there, and I've been spreading the news ever since! GO CATS!

Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
I became a Florida State Seminole fan in 1982. My Dad took me to an FSU/LSU game at Tiger Stadium. LSU won to go to the Orange Bowl but I was hooked on the spear on the helmet.
Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
My parents had Cal Poly football season tickets with a group of friends back in the early 70's and I would go to the games with them. I knew then that I wanted to play football for the Mustangs.

I was being recruited by the MSU Bobcats
While watching the review of the season with the coach…he got all agitated and started sweating when the Griz game came up. The Griz ran all over them and I made a mental note to contact the mighty team to the West
I did end up being a Griz and ever since I have been very happy with my life in Missoula
If I had become a Bobcat I would be by now a huge asshole like all the other cat fans so I’m very grateful.
