Another interesting "perfect game"

Post by SuperHornet »

Probably the most infamous "perfect game" in history (outside of that one ruined by first base umpire Jim Joyce) was the gem thrown by Pittsburgh Pirate "Hard Luck" Harvey Haddix against the Milwaukee Braves in Milwaukee. After nine innings, no Brave had even made first base. Perfect game, right? Perhaps. But no Pirate had crossed the plate, so the game went into extra innings. In fact, Haddix tossed a full DOZEN perfect innings, more than anyone had done within the confines of one game before. But STILL no Pirates crossed the dish, so the game went into the fateful 13th. During the unlucky inning, Haddix lost the perfect game, the no hitter, the shutout, and the entire game. The only thing that kept it from being worse than it was was the fact that home run hitter Henry Aaron was called out for passing a runner. Still, it was enough to lose the game.

In MY book, 12 perfect innings MORE than qualifies as a perfect game. There are those who agree with me. That's good enough for me! Add poor Harve to the list!!!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I just mentioned this game in another thread. Not sure how to rule here, you can make a strong argument that Haddix deserves credit for a perfect game, on the other hand, he may be more famous because he didn't get credit for one.

Dang. I'd say since he pitched a perfect game in the standard 9 innings, then it should qualify. :coffee:
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
