Surprised this wasn't posted (female kicker)

Post by tampajag »

Surprised to see SH didn't bring this up:
Frustrated and maybe a bit embarrassed, Lauren Silberman fought back tears after kicking her way into NFL history.

Lauren Silberman made big news with her NFL tryout ... that was over in two kicks.
She became the first woman to try out at a regional combine Sunday, but she lasted all of two kicks, none of which traveled even 20 yards. The 28-year-old Silberman hurt her right quadriceps while preparing for the tryout earlier in the week, and attributed her struggles to that injury.

''I tried staying off it and waited for today,'' she said. ''I didn't even take kicks in warm-ups, and, it's pretty hard to know that you'll be in pain, and I wanted to work through it and I certainly tried to, but I just couldn't do it today.''

Heard about this on the radio but injury wasn't mentioned.

All that time practicing place kicking could have been spent creating the perfect sandwich. :ohno: :ohno:

It did. GATW is just trying to derail the NASCAR thread.

why would SH post about this. hes not big on the female failing at a male only sport. hell, I bet even he could kick better.

I'm surprised he didn't post anything leading up the combine. Must still be in Danica shock

My 17 year old daughter, as well as virtually every female high school soccer player with any ability whatsoever, could routinely kick 35 yard field goals... :ohno:

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- After the two pathetic and pitiful pseudo-kickoffs, after the stubborn refusal to say how far she'd ever actually kicked a football, Lauren Silberman still could have salvaged her day.

She could have looked at the reporters from the 30-odd media outlets gathered at the New York Jets' facility, stared straight at the 20 television cameras filming this regional scouting combine and said:

"The NFL opened this amazing door for me. I am a young entrepreneur. I have created a product geared toward professional athletes and I would be a lousy businesswoman if I didn't seize this once-in-a-lifetime platform."

But oh no, she didn't say that. She didn't even come close. She insisted she'd trained and over-trained, but she wouldn't say when exactly she first kicked a football. She swore she was better than what she showed Sunday, but wouldn't offer any anecdotal evidence to even suggest that. She crowed that she had done this as an inspiration to women, but didn't offer homage to any female athlete who has not only appeared but achieved in a hitherto man's sport.

What's clearly evident here is that Ashely Martin has a lot more talent than Lauren Silberman does!

She's like the Shannon Faulkner of the NFL...

Also, didn't Mia Hamm have a brief tryout with the Chiefs back in the day? Apparently she was kicking 40 yard+ FGs. With alternating feet...

Iola is correct. Hamm DID have a tryout with the Chiefs. I still have no idea why she didn't sign....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Honestly the biggest story out of all of this is that ANYONE can try out for the NFL for only $275.

Heard she went up to Missoula to try and ruin the reputation of a football player.
