WFA Playoffs Continue

Post by SuperHornet »

A week after a break for the WWC, the WFA continued their playoffs. Those who took part in the international tournament decidedly did NOT suffer a letdown as one might expect.

This week is the WFA's quarterfinals (or conference semis, depending on how you look at it). The powerhouse Boston Militia took care of business in the first game of the day, taking out the DC Divas 58-34. In Game 2, the vaunted running game of the second-year upstart Atlanta Phoenix got shut down HARD as National Team stars Sami Grisafe and Jeanette Gray went off, propelling the Chicago Force to a 77-0 shutout victory. At the half in St. Louis, the Slam is up by a FG over the traditionally good Dallas Diamonds, 17-14. And, at Fresno-Central HS, the San Diego Surge and the Central Cal War Angels should be teeing it up right about now.

EDIT: The league is now saying that Chicago won by a score of 84-0. That's in contrast with the Internet radio broadcast on WJOB that only spoke of 77-0. Hmmm....

All games have gone final. Incredible second half comebacks in the west.

Boston Militia 58, DC Divas 34
Chicago Force 84, Atlanta Phoenix 0
Dallas Diamonds 35, St. Louis Slam 20
Central Cal War Angels 40, San Diego Surge 14.

The defending champs are now DONE. The Surge won last year at Heinz Field. Next week's games will determine the participants in the finals to be held at San Diego's Balboa Stadium, the first home of the Chargers after they moved from L.A. Yet ANOTHER season in which the host team will NOT participate in the game....

Next week:

Boston Militia (10-0) vs. Chicago Force (10-0)
Dallas Diamonds (10-0) vs. Central Cal War Angels (11-0)

Locations TBD. I'm assuming at Chicago and at Fresno/Visalia (the split home for the War Angels, similar to what the Packers did with Green Bay/Milwaukee for decades).
