Charleston Southern 's Jamey Chadwell: AFCA Regional COY

Post by BJuice »

Charleston Southern Head Coach Jamey Chadwell Named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year
Chadwell led the Buccaneers to a school record in wins and their highest national ranking in school history during a remarkable first season at CSU. He was named the 2013 Big South Coach of the Year in late November.
Chadwell took over the program in January and the Buccaneers hit the ground running as CSU opened the season with a 32-29 come-from-behind win at rival The Citadel. The Bucs added a road win at FBS-bound Appalachian State in September, and a win over then-No. 3 Coastal Carolina in November to their growing list of accomplishments. His 10 wins are the most for a Big South head coach in his first season.
The 10 wins in 2013 sets a new CSU program record, surpassing the previous mark of nine set in 2006. The Bucs were 10-1 to start the season - with their lone loss coming at Colorado - before dropping their final two games of the year. The Bucs started the season 7-0 and captured a Big South record six road wins.

CSU's 10 wins this season are a five-game improvement over last season.

AWESOME! Great news for CSU. Hope he sticks around for a few years. It's his 3rd team in 3 years (2011 NGC, 2012 Delta St, 2013 CSU)

Decent choice, but no better than that. There is ALSO a good argument that this award should have gone to the "businessman" at CCU, whose team is STILL playing....

Why'd you put businessman in parentheses? Are you implying that he isn't a businessman?

Happy for Coach Chadwell, he was the RB coach at ETSU the last season they had a team (my true freshman year there) Great individual and coach, very deserving of this award.

No. My point is that for twenty-some-odd years, that's all he did; 20 years of separation from football. There was little reason to expect that he'd experience success at all, yet his team is still playing. THAT is the stuff for which COY awards are made, IMO....

I think he will. He made a point of saying in his introductory press conference that he "was coming home" and wanted to be at Charleston Southern "for a while." I think we can keep him and he can be at CSU and build a great program at CSU. I believe Coach Chadwell has long term plans at CSU and this season was just the beginning. In basketball, we've made a long term commitment to Coach Radebaugh. I believe we will do the same thing with Coach Chadwell. I follow him on Twitter and he has been working hard on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. He is a relentless recruiter and his staff is hard working and full of energy.

Yes, "business man's" (Coach TD Bank's) team is still playing; however, let's not forget that he is still coaching with and experiencing success with players that he inherited from Coach David Bennett. Coach Bennett was fired/resigned/let go after the 2011 season. That means Coach TD Bank still has two years after this year with Coach Bennett's players. Then, we will see what kind of coach/recruiter/program manager/program builder Coach TD Bank is.

I think the fact that these players are Coach Bennett's players has largely been forgotten. Coach Bennett deserves as much, if not more, credit than Coach TD Bank for Coastal's success last year and this year.
