Rookie Hurls a No-No!

Post by SuperHornet »

Even when you hate the team for all your worth, you gotta give credit where credit is due. Congratulations to SF Giants late-blooming rookie pitcher Chris Heston who put together a no-no against the bumbling Mets today. More proof that pitch count is bogus. The average manager would have yanked him two innings early just because of pitch count. This is the 288th no-hitter in MLB history (really ought to be the 289th, but revisionist former commish Fay Vincent bogusly eliminated Ernie Shore's no-no simply because he came in one batter into a game Babe Ruth got tossed from) and the 17th in Giants history. Amazingly, this is actually the 22nd such gem ever posted by a rookie, the 11th in the National League. WTG, Chris! Keep up the good work!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I think you have it wrong. Fay Vincent took the perfect game distinction away from Ernie Shore and instead listed it as a combined no-hitter with Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth started the game and threw a four-pitch walk to start the game. He got ejected after that batter and Shore came in in relief. The runner was caught stealing and then Shore retired the next 26 batters in order. I think Vincent was right - a perfect game is having no one get on base - clearly someone did - and it clearly falls under the listing of a combined no hitter. Don't see anything bogus about that.

Even though he didn't walk any batters and the Giants had no errors, he did not get a perfect game since he hit 3 batters. Think I read that is a record for a no hitter.

Also, while the Mets may have been bumbling last night, they are actually having a decent season after finishing 79-83 last year. They lead the NL East this year though are only 3 games above .500

Shades of 1973. The whole NL East sucks this year. :twocents:

It's slightly better this year but if the Mets can make the WS again, that is good with me.
