My confidence is very high that Americans can actually pay more for things
Re-focus on building our own businesses and live through an extended trade war with China

Yeah but mostly what China provides for us is plastic sh!t...Pwns wrote:In general, the country with fewer labor laws and a more cavalier attitude about workplace safety and regulations will win trade wars. In other words, not us.

Not to mention, they still would like that 330 million person market to sell plastic shit to.Chizzang wrote:Yeah but mostly what China provides for us is plastic sh!t...Pwns wrote:In general, the country with fewer labor laws and a more cavalier attitude about workplace safety and regulations will win trade wars. I'm not convinced that we are incapable of taking back some of the manufacturing we surrendered

We’e already substituting Vietnamese and Malaysian plastic shyt for Chinese plastic shyt. Substitution principle at work!Chizzang wrote:Yeah but mostly what China provides for us is plastic sh!t...Pwns wrote:In general, the country with fewer labor laws and a more cavalier attitude about workplace safety and regulations will win trade wars. Not to mention a great deal of clothing manufacturing has been feeling China.Ivytalk wrote:We’e already substituting Vietnamese and Malaysian plastic shyt for Chinese plastic shyt. Substitution principle at work!Chizzang wrote:

Well, we proved we could survive $4.00/gallon gasoline in the middle of a huge recession.Chizzang wrote:I'm not kidding...

Yup. That two.Ivytalk wrote:*fleeingIbanez wrote: Not to mention a great deal of clothing manufacturing has been feeling China.

That is an interesting point in all of this - China is not really the low-cost producer of choice anymore in the world. As part of the evolution of their industry, they can't compete with other low-cost countries as much as they could pre-recession. There's a reason why China's growth has slowed as much as it has in the past 10 years.Ibanez wrote:Yup. That two.Ivytalk wrote: *fleeing
Actually, I squandered an opportunity for a "fleece" joke.
Yes. Increased energy and labor costs have contributed to the exodus of clothing manufacturers for Vietnam, Bangledash, etc...GannonFan wrote:That is an interesting point in all of this - China is not really the low-cost producer of choice anymore in the world. As for a trade war, we still need each other more than not so I'm sure this will work itself out. Nothing wrong with poking the Tiger every now and then if we feel they aren't playing nice.

There isn’t a Chinaman’s chance of Drumpf backing down.CID1990 wrote:Well our stern tut tutting of the past certainly hasn't worked on the Chinese
they are openly and actively engaged in just about every shady trade practice out there... the fact that we don't refer to it cynically as "Chinese trading" in name is because some scold would call it racist
I question whether this will work or not also, but the alternative, in the end, is to surrender to them

I’d rather have Jill Stein’s finger on the big red button than the dipshit-in-chief’s.Chizzang wrote:Without question Trump is a pompous dipsh!t...Ivytalk wrote: There isn’t a Chinaman’s chance of Drumpf backing down.
But his gut reaction (slash) knee jerk response to international bullsh!t is spot on

His response to immigration is probably wrong - but doing nothing was MORE wrong
His response to China is probably wrong - but doing nothing is MORE wrong
and there have been more examples... where he's wrong but NOTHING was more wrong
Look, one thing is certain
He's wrong a lot
But he's moving the peanut

Clitz would just be happy with his finger on Jill's little buttonIvytalk wrote:I’d rather have Jill Stein’s finger on the big red button than the dipshit-in-chief’s.Chizzang wrote:

I was hoping you’d be sniffing around!

CID saw a pic of Jill in a bikini in another thread and it moved a little. Both he and Ivy would tap that blue haired beauty....Chizzang wrote:Ivytalk wrote:![]()
