Here are some facts on the wall according to the NY Times & DOHS:
-Trump supposedly has a goal of 1000 miles of the 1954 mile Southern border (1200+ of that is Texas with the Rio Grande)
-654 miles of barrier was already built when Trump entered office (much of which was inadequate).
-124 miles of new or replacement barrier has already been approved prior to this deal.
-40 of replacement has already been built or started.
-14 miles of new was started this month.
-55 miles of new with this latest deal.

Now explain how a bill, with less money, is a win? He's in a no win situation. He HAS to sign this otherwise it's his fault, again, for a shut down.

Again, you were wrong when you stated
Ibanez wrote:So if Trump signs this new bill he'll actually be getting less than what was offered in December. What a n awful deal maker.

The 1.6 billion in barrier funding offered in the Senate package was earlier in 2018 (like the CNN link you used stated) (believe it was June) which was no longer on the table in DECEMBER. In Dec Its was a lame duck conk House, and the conks didn't have 60 votes in the Senate votes in the senate to pass a bill on their own.

DECEMBER donk offer: 1.6 billion increase to DOHS funding towards border security/ZERO $$ for fencing/wall.
Now: 3+ billion increase funding towards border security (to a total of about $23 billion): $1.7 billion non fencing/wall + $1.375 billion fencing/wall.

I didn't say it was a win. But its $1.375 billion more in fencing/wall for FY 2019 than was offered by the donks in Dec.

So to restate, Trump is accepting a deal for less money.

What a joke.

Bottom line is that unless something changes dramatically Trump is not going to get funding to do what he said Mexico was going to pay for. He's not going to get the kind of wall he was demagoguing about during the campaign. What he's going to do is try to scam his supporters into thinking he actually got it. That's how he rolls. He's all about conning and scamming. It's what he does.

The sad thing is that somewhere in the range of 35% to 45% of the population is going to continue to fall for his nonsense. It's a cult. Reality doesn't matter. The Dear Leader is all that matters.

Again WRONG.
Dec deal on the table had 1.6 billion increase for border security, zero for fencing/wall.
Deal now reportedly has over 3 billion increase for border security: 1.7 billion increase for border security other than fencing/wall, + 1.375 billion for fencing/wall.

The last couple months I think were just the 1st couple rounds in a 10 round fight.

Next:
-Trump may very well declare a nation emergency using 10 USC 284. Donks would of course judge shop and likely get it blocked, and SCOTUS would ultimately decide.

-Or possibly using sequestration leverage for FY 2020. The below came from a Washington Post columnist, so take it with a grain of salt (NY Post link below not behind a paywall). I thought we were done with sequestration, but apparently not. An interesting take- Trump gets barrier funding, or we get across the board spending cuts (which I think we need, including military).

If Trump relies on 10 USC 284, there will be no need for judge-shopping. The plain text of the statute will do him in.

I like how everyone was crowing about "compromise" then when compromise hits everyone on both sides screams bloody murder.

I agree with Ibanez (and others) that conks should have got border funding done in the first 2 years, but conks never had 60 votes in the Senate so it probably never would have gotten passed anyways.

No doubt Trump caved in round 1, but he got the dems to cave on "no wall money" in round 2. The only thing significant that happened between rounds 1 and 2 was the SOTU. Interesting ain't it?

Also Trump got some wall funding without budging an inch on DACA, which is a loss (or at a minimum a missed opportunity) for donks to appease Team Brown. If conks were smart (they aren't) they would highlight this issue to the Brown vote next election cycle.

I don't think Trump will go the emergency route now that donks caved in round 2 on wall/fence/metal slats/barrier funding. I think he (should) uses wall/barrier/fence/metal slats funding as a sticking point during the CR negotiations.
