Trump is Not Well

Postby kalm » Fri Sep 13, 2019 6:49 am

JSO ain't alone among conservatives in his views on Trump's mental health. How many Republicans are willing to put country over party? Or are we too far down the tribalism rabbit hole?

I wasn’t shy about making the same case publicly. During a July 14, 2016, appearance on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, for example, I responded to a pro-Trump caller who was upset that I opposed Trump despite my having been a Republican for my entire adult life and having served in the Reagan and George H. W. Bush administrations and the George W. Bush White House.

“I don’t oppose Mr. Trump because I think he’s going to lose to Hillary Clinton,” I told Ben from Purcellville, Virginia. “I think he will, but as I said, he may well win. My opposition to him is based on something completely different, which is, first, I think he is temperamentally unfit to be president. I think he’s erratic, I think he’s unprincipled, I think he’s unstable, and I think that he has a personality disorder; I think he’s obsessive. And at the end of the day, having served in the White House for seven years in three administrations and worked for three presidents, one closely, and read a lot of history, I think the main requirement for president of the United States … is temperament, and disposition … whether you have wisdom and judgment and prudence.”

It's just Democrats and never-Trumpers going down the list of failed ideas of trying to prevent/end a Trump presidency. The bottom line is he won in 2016, if they don't like it they have another chance to beat him in 2020.

I'll take policy over personality.
Sure, it would be nice to have both, but what's truly more important?

He looks pretty stable. I don't think he's going to tip over any time soon. His last opponent on the other hand did tip over so is it safe to say that she is/was unstable?

If the worst case scenarios haven't happened yet, they won't happen at all.

He'll be gone when his first term is done and we'll all laugh about it.

I think and hope you’re right. He’s shown the strength of the system.

But he’s still batshit crazy and so are his supporters. TDS is real but it’s similar on the other side and the mostly unfounded fears of socialism taking over America.

I think Kalm is saying that the right's fears about socialism will turn out to be groundless in much the same manner that the left's fears about Trump have turned out to be groundless because the checks and balances in the system will prevent them from from making significant changes.

Yes there would be executive orders and the priorities of federal agencies would change under President Biden/Warren/Harris/Sanders but will the changes be significant and will they be long lasting? Probably not. We get all bent out of shape thinking the end is nigh when we probably don't need to.

I was hanging out with a good buddy last night who's a strong conk and Trump supporter. EVERY Democratic candidate with the exception (for some reason) of Kamala Harris makes him absolutely lose his shit. Summabitchin commiesocialists will absolutely RUIN this country. What checks and balances are there for a move to healthcare for all or free college or universal income for all? If the left is in power, there is no constitutional verse that can prevent it. Trump can only get away with things that laws allow or don't prevent.

Or we just have a series of one-term presidents whose greatest claim to fame is undoing what the previous one did

No it's not. I concluded that he's mentally ill early on during his run. I'd say as soon as I saw his first Republican debate performance. I posted my opinion at the time. At the time I didn't think there was any way he'd be President because Republicans depend on a block vote among White Evangelical Christians and I didn't think White Evangelical Christians would support a moral atrocity like Trump.

I was wrong about White Evangelical Christians. But the point is that I didn't start with the "Trump is mentally ill" opinion because I was looking for something to stop him from being re-elected. I started with it because it's obvious to anybody with eyes to see and ears to hear that the guy is not right in the head.

Peter Wehner really hates Trump.

JSO and Wehner both stayed in a Holiday Inn Express so they are well qualified to determine Trump's mental condition!

As I've said before:

If I see someone on their hands and knees throwing up on the sidewalk I don't need to be a MD to know they are physically ill. I might not be qualified to diagnose their problem. I might not know how to treat them. But I know they are physically ill. And I don't need to be a psychiatrist to know Trump is mentally ill. It's obvious.

I was thinking of that today while listening to some conservative local radio talk show host blast a psychiatrist for opining on Trump's mental state without having seen him. I was thinking, "Dude. Did you not see what just happened with the hurricane thing. Marking a map with a sharpie. That's something a second grader would do. Then he went on national television with it."

As I said/wrote early on during his run for the office: The guy OBVIOUSLY has serious emotional maturity and stability issues. He's not well.
