Anything during and before baseball's quota system is tainted. Anything during the steroid era is tainted. Larsen was close to the end of the quota system era.

His earned run average was 1.12, a live-ball era record, as well as the major league record in 300 or more innings pitched. I remember Drysdale and Gibson having long scoreless streaks in 1968. Gibson was defeated by Mickey Lolich in game 7 of the World Series. Denny McLain had a decent season too, 31-6, 1.96 ERA, 280 K's, 28 complete games, 6 shutouts. Mclain was 1-2 in the World Series, Gibson 2-1 and Mickey Lolich 3-0 Lolich pitched 3 complete games in that series, with a 1.67 ERA. In 1969, MLB raised the pitching mound and both Gibson and McLain's ERA went up 100 points.
