MLB Trade winds begin to breeze

Post by dbackjon »

Last week’s Jake Peavy near-trade demonstrated that not only will the Padres’ ace dictate his relocation terms, but that the annual swapping season will heat up well before the July 31 trading deadline.

Here are some developments to watch in the coming days and weeks:

The New York Mets retain keen interest in Washington Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson, to the point where the Nationals have scouts watching the Mets’ Triple-A team in Buffalo, N.Y., and Double-A team in Binghamton, N.Y., evaluating pitchers Jon Niese, Mike Antonini and Eddie Kunz among others.

The Mets need a first baseman because Carlos Delgado could be out for two months after hip surgery.

I think the Phils bullpen will be okay, even if Lidge doesn't return to top form.
They get Romero back in a few days and I think Madson can close if need be. I wouldn't mind if the Phils got another closer, but another starter would be higher on my list.

You won't see me criticize Lidge. He was a huge part of the World Series win and that gives him a lot of room to screw up as far as I'm concerned.

I think Lidge is hurt but the team is keeping it quiet. I suspect that his knee is bothering him. He has already allowed more runs this year than all of last year.

Both Roy Osawlt & Jason Marquis have been names out there in more than one place as the Phils having more than passing interest in.

Yankees will have a few extra outfielders and could use 1 or 2 relievers.

Anybody want Chin Ming Wang? Take him. Please.

If the Yankees aren't going to ask the world for him I'd be interested. Sure he's off to a crappy start this year but he was your best pitcher the past 2-3 yrs before he went down last year.

And now's he's at best the 6th best starter and cannot pitch out of the pen. Its a problem that Yankee fans like to see. Its one we haven't had in quite some time.

Well Brett Myers may require season-ending hip surgery so this thread may have a lot more pulse to it than you'd think.
