It appears that Winston Salem State (still FCS, if just for a while) is dropping radio coverage of their football games. They must be hurting even worse than I imagined...

Re: WSSU Dropping Radio Coverage
There's no local radio station that would start doing it?
Weird.

not really for W-S... keep this in mind, and try to put yourself in the shoes of a programming director at a radio station in Winston-Salemdanefan wrote:There's no local radio station that would start doing it?

it's a saturday in the fall in the Triad and you can carry the following:
UNC football
NC State football
Duke football
Va Tech football
NC A&T football
Elon football
App football (yeah I know they are far away, but it's an option)
WSSU football
WCU football
NASCAR Nationwide Series Race
Major FBS (Westwood One game of the week)
non-sports programming
in the worst of scenarios - in that market: three or four of those options are off the table... there are three or four more appealing options for me to pick to sell my advertisers on... and are more closely followed in the Triad.
North Carolina is a competitive as hell region for college football at all levels, WSSU was yet another entrant in to that crowded marketplace...

Re: WSSU Dropping Radio Coverage
Winston-Salem is an hour and a half from Boone and the Triad has a large ASU alumni base. In fact the Winston-Salem Journal is one of the best "home" papers ASU has. Tommy Bowman does a hell of a job down there covering the Apps.TwinTownBisonFan wrote: App football (yeah I know they are far away, but it's an option)
