You'll see the real push for this come in May and June - we can probably stomach this many people being out of work for a month, maybe two, but things will get real dire after that. People see the cuteness of the stay at home thing with fun social media posts about how people are spending their days and making fun TicTok videos and celebrities posting look at us blurbs, but the reality is that working people (contractors, retail folks, hairdressers, waiters, etc) are already feeling the pinch on paying bills and getting food and just the basics. Even if they come back with social distancing and masks on everyone and other stipulations that would be workable and would go a long way to avoiding this sink into a depression. There's still going to be the question of how to protect the elderly and the otherwise at risk folks until we get to a vaccine, so there may be enforced quarantines of those folks. Lots of civil liberty discussions on the horizon.SDHornet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 8:25 pmEvery time I see this argument in favor of shutting down the economy, I think of that scene in the Big Short when the college dudes are cheering their big windfall and Brad Pitt's character goes into a rant about how many peoples lives are ruined by 1% increase in unemployment. Doubtful. She is an an Archdiocese school, so my guess is they are very different than public. She was already planning on going to one of the public systems next year. She has an open offer from my county in MD and she hopes to have an offer from the Virginia one across the creek.HI54UNI wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 8:15 pmI would check on that contract closely. She does have a "contract" but AFAIK it's at will, and I've always been under the impression that at will meant you could quit or be fired. The one thing I did make sure she let them know was that they DID owe her some pay because she's on the 12 month plan instead of 10. I knew she wouldn't save the money for the summer months (but she has a summer job). By my calculation they owe her about $4600 for being on the slow pay.![]()
Does she have a union or teacher association or other type of collective bargaining?

I can probably find her a job if she wants to move to rural Iowa.

Re: Poll: After The Virus?
This. But also with all the "essential" jobs, there is still a lot of people running around on a daily basis which defeats the purpose of the lockdown. I'm starting to lean more in the camp of this Chinese Flu running through the populace at some point, so may as well get it over with. A vaccine is a far way off and I'm not seeing a way around a large majority of people coming down with this virus at one point (current lockdown) or another (post lockdown).GannonFan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 7:19 amYou'll see the real push for this come in May and June - we can probably stomach this many people being out of work for a month, maybe two, but things will get real dire after that. You forgot one "R". It is Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmitic, and 'Renching (wrenching aka shop class).

Us Southern Canadians keep the "g". Only people from waaaaay down South take that off. I think the line is somewhere around Missouri the "g" starts dropping off and by the time you hit Mississippi they are only using the middle letters words.UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 12:34 pmOops, good catch.Winterborn wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 12:16 pm
