Re: Question for Z and Tman
Competition is the key...and health care is no different than any industry...
The shrinking number of doctors is one of the major reasons health care costs are skyrocketing...yet the state of Texas is proving the competition can reverse that trend...
And it's the easiest way to fix rising healt care costs, but the Democrats don't want any part of it...
It's called TORT REFORM...
Since Texas reformed it's Tort Laws three years ago, over 7000 doctors have relocated to Texas....to the benefit of the people there...
Excessive, outlandish lawsuits drive medical costs up faster than almost anything...reducing the number of abusive lawsuits drives costs DOWN...
Nah....we'd rather keep the ability to get rich by suing the pants off a doctor and driving up health care costs...while demanding free or subsidized health care
In the Democratic Health "Reform" legislation, there is no mention of Tort Reform...
Wonder why???

http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/05/19/ ... rt-reform/The most significant change is a $250,000 cap on non-economic damages per defendant, such as pain and suffering and loss of companionship. “Before the caps, the average award was $1.21 million; it’s been $880,000 since,” the Dallas Morning News reported last year.
Malpractice suits have plummeted. In 2003, before the caps took effect, there were 1,108 medical liability suits filed in Dallas County, the Morning News reported. Only 142 cases were filed in 2004. Last year there were 184.
Excessive, outlandish lawsuits drive medical costs up faster than almost anything...reducing the number of abusive lawsuits drives costs DOWN...
http://www.tortreform.com/node/533Excess litigation has fostered an epidemic of defensive medicine, wherein doctors order more procedures than they ordinarily would to protect themselves from lawsuits. Defensive medicine increases annual medical costs by 10 percent, or $214 billion.
About 83 percent of physicians practice defensive medicine, and over a quarter of tests, procedures, referrals, and consultations are ordered out of fear of lawsuits.

Chad, it's not longer... if it's an emergency in Canada you see a doctor immediately. 9 out of 10 Canadians have personal doctors they can make Drs appointments with, much like you would in America. Even in America, if you want to get your eyes checked out you can end up waiting a week or two for an available appointment with the optometrist. It's the same on the Canadian health care system for non-emergency situations.

Just wait until your current contract ends, your costs will skyrocket, again. Your initial reply was weak:AZGrizFan wrote:Nope, not "just like your wife's law firm". First, you DO know what you were paying for healthcare 5 years ago, but your ego would not allow you to concede that point.
Second - You are a known liar here and I do not believe you and neither should anyone else.

I think they do know what competition his, here. They have a block of 50 million customers ready to buy. Now that's bargaining power - and smart. It's called competition.AZGrizFan wrote:D1B wrote:

Our costs go up an average of 7-9% a year. They start out proposing a 14-20% increase, then make you leave the bargaining table feeling like you got a DEAL at 7-9%. Kinda like used car dealers. When the current insurer proposes a 15-20% increase next year, we'll shop around and probably move again to minimize the impact. It's called COMPETITION.....something the government knows nothing about.
Peace, brutha.
