Good question. I'm not sure as I've been trying to read up on the history. It's got a long history and I'm just not getting it into my head.

Transnistria has Russian troops. I would argue that Moldova and its people are much more closely aligned with Romania. Given a choice between a Russia and Romania, they would choose Romania.

And hey, I don't doubt there will be violence/war in Moldova and the Transnistria area - Russia already has troops there and they've already been clear that they want to partition the whole south of Ukraine and likely into the Transnistria area anyway. If they are successful in Ukraine that will be their ultimate goal. Question is do they have the fuel to get that far.
