Assume you mean W's Iraq War. I was young and dumb and in real time bought into the WMD narratives (I was a FR in college at the time of the invasion). Now I view it as a foreign policy failure that destabilized the region all in the name of "spreading democracy". I'm not some America hater, just hope that someday we actually have a foreign policy that thinks of US citizens first, and padding the pockets of American oligarch last. Wishful thinking, I know.
Whoa. Slow down there. Now you’re sounding like me.

Putin didn't think it through? Sorry, not buying that. I would bet he thought this through many times.

Maybe they were never interested in leveling a nation they want to absorb?
Poor choice of words. I'm sure he thought about what he is doing but he didn't think it through from his enemies perspective. I feel he just assumed that just like in Syria, Crimea and Georgia, there'd be little resistance and nothing from the international community. There have been so many "red lines" drawn in the past 15 years or so and each time he's crossed them. Each time the consequences haven't been detrimental. This time...it's hurting. Their rubie is fighting back but NORDStream 2, SWIFT, asset seizure, etc.. are taking its toll.
I agree with this. Also I think Russia just needs to hold on (economically) until the fall and then they'll squeeze all these EU countries when they need oil to survive the next winter.

Comments on this interview is his gun is slung wrong and the claim is it's not on safety. I wouldn't know, just going off what others who claim to be in the know are saying.

To be fair, more of the pro-war in Ukraine flag waivers should put their money on their mouth and sign up like he did. So kudos to Nance for that...assuming this isn't just a grab for headlines.

This is something treaties help deal with. Unfortunately for Ukraine, they do not have any meaningful defense treaties with anyone that can save them from their current predicament.
Well, to hear Russia say it, it was partly Ukraine's desire to be a part of a defensive alliance (i.e. NATO) that prompted their invasion. They probably should've asked for a NATO-light treaty (part of NATO, but no NATO forces stationed in-country) when they gave up their nukes back in the 90's. The lesson everyone is learning from this crisis is 1) don't ever give up nukes if you have them and 2) get in NATO as soon as possible. Taiwan doesn't have #1 and they're way too far away geographically for #2 so their fate, whenever it happens, is a foregone conclusion.
So was Ukraine's according to everybody.

Taiwan is the reason we need to ensure that Ukraine makes Russia's life miserable for as long as possible.

Would it be? I saw somewhere a month or 2 ago that the guy who would likely replace Putin is allegedly even worse..
Putin is only going to be taken down from within or by illness. If it’s the former, it would be surprising if any Putin adjacent officials rise to power.
A very hard target from within - I bet the oligarchs can't get within 50 ft of him, he sleeps at a different place every night, and McDonalds is cooking his food.

I can't comment on what is said in Russia, but don't you find it odd the Russians have left communications up in Ukraine? The last war the US was in, we bombed the shit out of infrastructure and communications.

So why didn't Russia do that in Ukraine?
Because Putin didn't think this through. I'm not quite sure what their battle plan is. Taking Mariupol to create a land bridge seems to make sense but I would do that AFTER I knocked out communications and had dominated the airspace.

Take out COMMS. Rule the Sky. Rule the Sea. Invade.

Russia didn't do that. I think they expected an Anaconda type offensive. They also underestimated their opponent and their resolve.
Maybe they couldn't do it - for all the talk about how badly Ukraine needs planes for air cover I don't see where Russia's air force is doing any better than its army judging by hundreds of tanks they have been unable provide with close air support. One thing I've noticed is that those javelins don't just disable a tank they leave a smoking rubble. I think that if I were a Russian troop, a tank is the very last place I'd want to be. Seems like every one of them I've seen has it turret laying on the ground meters away. Helicopters don't seem to be the factor they were in Afghanistan for the Russians either.

Ukraine only needs 8 billion per month from the US. How well do you suppose the accounting of that money will go? We most certainly won't see any of that money end back up in Pelosi's or Kerry's son's or any other DC kids pockets. Nope. Ukraine lives matter

So how exactly is all the heavy weapons (artillery) we are sending Ukraine supposed to make it's way to where it's supposed to go? Good luck trying to put it on a rail car or drive it.

Nah, the funnier takes are the policy wonks and other flag waivers that think Ukraine can muster enough BTGs to make some kind of a meaningful counter attack. I shit you not I see takes by blue check marks on how the UAF are massing up to make a move to retake the Donbas. Pure delusion.

Here's an example (thread) of one:

The propaganda is strong, like all dictators Putin becomes more isolated from people and real news, and he gives no fucks about lives.

Dozens of civilians who died during the Russian occupation of the Ukrainian city of Bucha were killed by tiny metal arrows from shells of a type fired by Russian artillery, forensic doctors have said.
According to a number of witnesses in Bucha, fléchette rounds were fired by Russian artillery a few days before forces withdrew from the area at the end of March.

Does Ukraine use these types of artillery shells?
So Russia shelled the area where they had their own troops before their withdrawal?

Wish Cid didn't cut tail and run so we could get a better picture. Things don't seem to be lining up with the narrative on this massacre. :coffee:
