Reaganomics has been very, very good to me.
Dear lord... please allow this dangerous combination of hair spary, bat slobber, and D.O.T. four automatic transmission fluid to excite my mind, occupy my spirits, and enrage my body, provoking me to kick any man or woman in the back of the head regardless of what he or she has or has not done unto me. All my Best, Earlie Cuyler.

Maybe, or maybe not. But I don't think he followed Chinese proverbs very much.Baldy wrote:I don't know. I always thought Jesus believed in the "teach a man to fish" kinda thing.kalm wrote:So the teachings of Jesus only apply to us as individuals? Is that true in all aspects of government?
Should able bodied and minded adults really qualify for food stamps?
Is the pope a commie? If so...are all catholics commies?
Lots of good questions from this article.

Still amazes me in this day and age how many times Jesus comes up in rational thought.

3. I'm VERY suspicious of the effectiveness of welfare programs. Including the corporate welfare that I'm sure some of these cutters fully support.
4). I'm more interested in the greater philosophical debate.
Population has increased about 5%, since Obama has come into office (about 1% a yr). Enrollment has increased close to 60%
Inflation 2008-2012 was 7% (bls inflation calculator). Monthly per person benefits have gone up 30%.
2008 was 28.223 million people on food stamps, avg monthly benefit $102.19, $37.642 billion spent
2012 was 46.609 million people on food stamps, avg monthly benefit $133.41, $78.428 billion spent
All the above info is available from the usda (you've got to scroll around a bit to see it all):
http://www.fns.usda.gov/pd/SNAPsummary.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So under Obama enrollment has shot up about 12 times the rate of population growth, and per person benefits have shot up about 4x the rate of inflation, andyet you are complaining about republicans trying to trim A LITTLE of the fat? JFC!
Republicans aren't trying to trim anything, they just want to spend the money different.

This is a stupid premise. Nobody ever had a conversation with Jesus about food stamps. This is just trying to hoist conservative Christians on their own petard.

Re: Would Jesus Cut Food Stamps?
Jesus did not advocate anything like food stamps. As noted by one Congressman, He spoke of the responsibility of the individual. Matthew 25 was referenced. It talked about what "you" do. For example:
Charity is...or at least should be...a private decision. And if there is a God who will hold you accountable for not being charitable then you will be held accountable by that God. Government should not be effectively compelling charity.
It doesn't say, "For I was hungry and you voted for politicians who would force OTHER PEOPLE to give me something to eat...." Etc.For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Re: Would Jesus Cut Food Stamps?
False statement. That's because of the second part. Yes, the incomes of those who've done best in terms of income have increased "exponentially" by the common understanding of the term. But the incomes of the majority have not been "crumbling." They have, over time, been growing as well. Maybe not over the past few years. But over any reasonably extended period. They CERTAINLY have not been "crumbling."While the income of a minority is increasing exponentially, that of the majority is crumbling," Francis said.

You are criminally minimizing Jesus' emphasis on feeding and taking care of the poor. Next to worshipping him and his old man, it's the primary way for you people to earn everlasting salvation. Christianity is anti-capitalist and a thoroughly Marxist political, social, moral and economic philosophy.
