I don't know. I always thought Jesus believed in the "teach a man to fish" kinda thing.

2). Growth also includes population increases.

3. I'm VERY suspicious of the effectiveness of welfare programs. Including the corporate welfare that I'm sure some of these cutters fully support.

Population increases, JFC! Under Obama, aka the food stamp president:
Population has increased about 5%, since Obama has come into office (about 1% a yr). Enrollment has increased close to 60%
Inflation 2008-2012 was 7% (bls inflation calculator). Monthly per person benefits have gone up 30%.

2008 was 28.223 million people on food stamps, avg monthly benefit $102.19, $37.642 billion spent
2012 was 46.609 million people on food stamps, avg monthly benefit $133.41, $78.428 billion spent

So under Obama enrollment has shot up about 12 times the rate of population growth, and per person benefits have shot up about 4x the rate of inflation, andyet you are complaining about republicans trying to trim A LITTLE of the fat? JFC!

Republicans aren't trying to trim anything, they just want to spend the money different.

Jesus did not advocate anything like food stamps. As noted by one Congressman, He spoke of the responsibility of the individual. Matthew 25 was referenced. It talked about what "you" do. For example:

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

It doesn't say, "For I was hungry and you voted for politicians who would force OTHER PEOPLE to give me something to eat...." Etc.

Charity is...or at least should be...a private decision. And if there is a God who will hold you accountable for not being charitable then you will be held accountable by that God. Government should not be effectively compelling charity.
