1. for the most part, these emails are written by operatives (usually interns) at DCI... these don't come from "some guy in ohio or missouri"

2. I love how "Obama duped people and the media were complicit" the biggest whiny-ass-titty-baby complaint that misses the fact that the GOP's time is over and they've **** up this country to the point that we could have nominated almost anyone and we would have won.

3. this contains my favorite of all time right wing bullshit canards... "illegal immigrants and social security" it's not true, it's never been true... but it plays on prejudice and affirms the readers belief that everyone is getting something but them (even if they are getting something). it's right up there with "they'll take our guns omgeezus"

also love that "joe the plumber" is cited as some kind of moral authority on anything...  he's all that's left for them to "rally round"
I don't disagree with what you're saying TTBF but I do have a couple of questions/points of clarification:
1) On points 1 & 3, you can't tell me that the Dems don't have their own operatives writing up their own BS stories, quotes, poems, etc. that play upon the fears of their core constituents.

2) On point 2, all politicians attempt to dupe the people by pretending to commit to taking care of their need/fears. Obama was very good at keeping things extremely general and avoiding specifics that might have pinned him down or alienated a potential voting block. I recognize that Obama is a politician and I don't think I've been critical of him for this (although I do wish we could elect a few more statesmen and a few less politicians).

I've also never tried to deny that W has "**** up this country to the point that we could have nominated almost anyone and we would have won." My concern is that the current administration's policies will aggravate the dismal state of the economy by making American companies less competitive and attempting to replace the lost jobs by growing government further.

Before you reply, please give me a second to cower in fear while you mow me down "like a John Deere Wide Deck Mulcher" :P  :D

ya ever seen one of these emails from a dem POV? i'm a dem operative who spends time with the base, it get wacky emails but usually they are one long paragraph rants from the sender... not a "forward if you agree" thing... we really don't have a black ops firm on par with DCI - which kinda bugs me...

there is some of the fearmongering esp. among choice groups... thats a fact. however that's pretty much the only group I can think of that really hammers the fear card on our side to get it's voters out.

as for #2... i'm not that big a cynic. the whole "all they do is manipulate people" thing is a little to easy an answer - i disagree about obama and specifics... it was true in the beginning, but by the time he finally put hillary away, he was being very specific (as much as a campaign can or should be)... but you can't tell detractors anything.

Good for the Dems on not hammering the fear card as hard. I can't say that I've seen that kind of e-mail or literature from either party because I toss that stuff as soon as I get it.

I wasn't always this cynical but personal experience and a few trips to the Thompson Center in Chicago (where you get to see drones with glazed eyes ssslllloooowwwllllyyy going about their jobs) soured me on the efficiency and effectiveness of government actually helping people in a productive manner (i.e. teaching them to be independent rather than dependent). Maybe my cynism is worse as a result of living in Illinois for 20+ years. Politicians are all somewhat manipulative in what they say and to who but they aren't any worse than a Madison Ave advertising executive.

i've met some civil servants that way (mostly in philly to be honest) here in MN there is a surprising amount of competence in public servants... i've never really had a problem even at the license bureau (our DMV) it's a difference in cultures i suspect between the two places. faith in government would seem to have a correlation with the professionalism and competence of the public servants

Anyone remember when AZgrizfan was extolling the virtues of one of those conkpies? He said it originated from his brother in law or something.  Then someone, who received an identical email busted him.   And he tried squirm out it by lashing out, at everyone.

That was good stuff...
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

The civil servants here do seem to be worse than they were in Iowa but it's not just the civil servants. The greed and power-lust of the politicians plays a role as does the number of people I've met who act like they are entitled to something from the government and others. It's disappointing and frustrating.

2. True, but the GOP fvcked up not by being conks but by implementing donk policies and trying to imitate the donks.

3. Not quite a 100% canard, as legitimate social security cards are often bought, sold and traded among extended family members and sometimes strangers. :!:

Your point accidentally highlights a fundamental problem that large segments of our society have been corrupted into trying to get something for nothing.

T's bitch is now Col Hogan. Mr. and Mrs Link-a-Lot.
