Before Elvis copied the black kids and delivered a product to whites that was a black thing
Before white musicians appropriated jazz
Even before we borrowed Blues from black men
We've been taking black ideas and black culture as far back as you can look
Disco / Rap / Jazz / Blues / you name it... we stole e'm all
This is not a new "thing" just starting with this generation
What I'm seeing now is more widely encompassing all cultural items considered to have originated with Africans - and the suggestion that whites shouldn't emulate those things
I wonder if what we'll see next is people being openly accosted or even assaulted over it

You celebrate the birth and the death/resurrection of man-made "pagan" deities under the guise of something else.
Perhaps you should try that one with your wife or girlfriend on anniversaries or birth days?

Re: Cultural appropriation ..... WTF
I think it's important to bring this quote back since I think Chizzy was right on the mark. We say over and over we want diversity, but then we express outrage when people take that diversity in and add it to the general culture. The greater culture never really pulls in that diversity if we scream every time someone tries to do so.Chizzang wrote:The logical end - if played out all the way - is complete and total racial separationCID1990 wrote:So I'm not all that savvy when it comes to the latest trends in identity politics and PC stuff. I usually try to ignore it when I can-
But I saw a couple references or articles on it in the last couple weeks. One was I believe a literature critic or someone from either WaPo, WSG or NYT talking about how authors are being criticized for writing fiction with characters outside their own cultures (and of course those cultures would be non white)
Then I saw some discussion on dreadlocks and how white people shouldn't wear them since they are primarily an African thing (although there is some evidence that the Celts, Picts, and possibly Vikings also twisted their hair into "snakes")
What's the take on this? I'm primarily interested in if anyone here agrees with the folks that are suggesting that whites should stay in their own cultural lanes.
Personally, I think these people are racist as **** for suggesting this and there's some pretty easy ways to refute the logic, but I'm curious

Of course this "easter" thing is another "pagan" festival that was instituted by a man-made council (nicea) which was convened by a Pagan, sun-god worshiping, Roman Emperor named CONSTANTINE.andy7171 wrote:That's Easter, death/Resurrection. One weekend.AshevilleApp wrote:

This Easter bologna fits right in with the Christmas bologna and flying reindeer bologna, it is a good thing America likes to eat things that are bad (like bologna) and believe things that are fiction.
But ... hey ... believe what you want ... not worried about the 2nd coming of the Messiah ... smh

I'm sure he did but I'm also guessing his assistant was White. What I'm talking about is that, every Black history month, you see this list of stuff Blacks supposedly invented. Then when you look up the details it's not true. A Black guy invented the X Ray machine. A Black guy invented the air conditioner. A Black guy invented the elevator. A Black guy invented the traffic signal. And, of course, a Black guy invented the gas mask.mrklean wrote: Did Edison take credit for his assistance's work? Just a question.
None of it is true. You have to come off as a heel and killjoy when you point it out but it is what it is. What you inevitably find is that a Black guy invented some particular version of whatever it is they're talking about. And the truth is that the world would be pretty much like it is with respect to technological advances like that if there had never been any Black people. Well, except that ultimately all of us trace our ancestry to Africa to start with so if there weren't ever any Black people to start with there wouldn't be any people.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Lets say a black person in 1920 invented a new form of air conditioning, what was the likelihood of this person obtaining a Patton from the U.S. Government. I think this happened more than you think. I don't think people were will to give a black person credit for an invention they would make them wealthy. Just my opinion.JohnStOnge wrote:I'm sure he did but I'm also guessing his assistant was White. Black people were able to obtain patents in the 1900s for sure.
My grandfather owned a patent for a ridiculous airfoil (like a bird's wing) and one of his colleagues (a black guy) obtained a patent on a version of a Venturi valve about the same time. That was in the 1930s. His colleague was older and already had another patent for some kind of mechanical device from several years earlier around WWI.
