There are people alive today who grew up during the America First movement.

There are some on the right who embrace right wing, nationalistic, autocracy (aka fascism) including the current president. They don’t hide it. They celebrate it.

And that's why jumping ahead to calling them Nazi's goes too far. That was a very specific kind of fascism, and it included world domination and racial purity through genocidal means. I'm pretty sure as crappy of Presidents George W Bush was and Trump is, they are decidedly not Nazi's. Or Hitler. Or Goebbels, etc. Yet for 25 years there's been a not insignificant core on the left who tell us they are that, and in the past 15 years, that the nation and our republic are on the brink of dissolving, that the next election is the last election. Trump goes away in January of '29, sooner if his health fails him.
...yeah, notice how age and mental enfeeblement aren't all over right wing talk radio any more? (And while Trump may not be Goebbels its plain as day that he has put a lot of work into developing Goebbels chops).

The fascist thing, especially going to the Nazi thing and Hitler, does seem a step past calling people socialists. It started with people calling W that early in his administration (the whole protests against the Afghanistan and Iraq wars were replete with signs comparing W to Hitler, complete with the small mustache), and only has ramped up over time. When you couple that with the fate of the republic in the balance, as we started doing in the 2010's, then I could see the argument. There's really nothing worse than being a Hitler or a Nazi. That's like going triple dog dare on someone.
That step past calling people socialists is made up by the sheer number of people and times that trump and MAQA yahoos have called his opponents unhinged, radical leftists, communists, socialists, etc. They've used them on judges, journalists, politicians, etc. Anyone that opposes or rules against trump's policies is fair game for derogatory name calling in their book and then they turn around and whine like the beta cucks they are when someone calls them names.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Fox News earlier this week called Rep Jasmine Crockett a "radical".
Radical House Dem appointed to GOP-led committee investigating January 6: 'We will expose the lies'

There are a lot of MAQA lawmakers in Congress, trump's Qabinet and statehouses that are just as if not more radical than Crockett.
You‘re going to compare calling someone a ‘radical‘ to calling someone Hitler :dunce:

The left has gone beyond with the NAZI Hitler rhetoric. Wake me up when the right starts regularly labeling the left with Stalin & Pol Pot.

Hitler strikes a nerve because the parallels are too obvious and they’re created by the right’s own actions and rhetoric.

But since we’re doing comparisons, name a Democratic president or for that matter, political leader (not just rank and file Rep. - both sides have their share of unhinged) who has called Trump Hitler or a Nazi.

Go watch the clip I posted of Bernie. That’s how a leader should speak in times such as this.

Or consider that families of the victims killed by Dylan Roof prayed for HIM after the shooting.

Meanwhile….

And I say calling them Nazi's and Hitler and threatening the annihilation of the republic if those folks win an election is a step further than radical or socialists. Neither is great dialogue, but one is a step further.

Biden made the comparisons, repeatedly. Really, this wasn't hard to find, it was a campaign strategy for the past 3 years.
“On a weekend when most Americans were honoring our nation’s heroes, Donald Trump parroted the autocratic language of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini — two dictators many U.S. veterans gave their lives fighting,” Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement at the time.

At a fundraiser soon after, Biden honed in on Trump’s “vermin” comments himself.

“A specific phrase with a specific meaning. It echoes language you heard in Nazi Germany in the ’30s,” he said. “And it isn’t even the first time. Trump also recently talked about, quote, ‘the blood of America is being poisoned’ — ‘the blood of America is being poisoned.’ Again, echoes the same phrases used in Nazi Germany.”

Prominent Democrats have compared trump to hitler. That's not debatable.

How can anyone claiming that calling trump hitler or a Nazi has led to violence against him and other MAQA yahoos argue that trump's words (“We have radical left lunatics out there and we just have to beat the hell out of them”) aren't a direct call for violence against his opponents?

Why when trump spoke on kirk's death did he only mention violence against MAQA yahoos and fail to mention liberals who were the victims of political violence such as Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, etc?

Incendiary rhetoric and political violence aren't a problem limited to the left. Blaming this on trump and MAQA yahoos being called hitler or Nazis is a beta cuck copout (it's their fault, we didn't do anything, we're victims, whaaa!).

A journalist who was put on the late right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk’s “hit list” has spoken out on the abuse she received from his supporters.
Patton says she was placed on the list in 2024 after writing a column, which she said “inflamed the MAGA faithful,” adding: “Once my name went up, the harassment machine roared to life.

“For weeks, my inbox and voicemail were deluged,” Patton continued. “Mostly white men spat venom through the phone: ‘B***h,’ ‘c**t,’ ‘n****r.’ They threatened all manner of violence.

“They overwhelmed the university’s PR lines and the [university] president’s office with calls demanding that I be fired. The flood was so relentless that the head of campus security reached out to offer me an escort, because they feared one of these keyboard soldiers might step out of his basement and come do me harm.”
MAQA yahoos haven't done a thing to incite threats of violence ... :sarcasm:

I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.
