Or simply arm the MM...there's no law preventing MM from carrying weapons...only internal company policies.AZGrizFan wrote:Why don't they just man all the ships with ex-SEALS?
Keep an armory locked under the Captain's control...and deploy when necessary. Stock at lease one M107 with at least one MM trained in it's use...(trumps an RPG range by 500 meters).
Or...
...keep deploying military resources to handle these situations to the tune of hown many hundreds of millions (if not billions)?

I think we should round up all the pirates and teach them how to grow vegetables and rice. You know, be productive.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

I think the owners might be a little nervous about lobbing RPGs around a few million gallons of oil.AZGrizFan wrote:Why don't they just man all the ships with ex-SEALS?

ex-SEAL = RPG? I'm not sure one has to follow the other. I like the idea of having crew members with elite military training on board. They'll know when and how to resist and when not to.houndawg wrote:I think the owners might be a little nervous about lobbing RPGs around a few million gallons of oil.AZGrizFan wrote:Why don't they just man all the ships with ex-SEALS?
If we can't get ex-SEALS, how about Chuck Norris.

Well, it boils down to economics. If it's less expensive to change your shipping routes than suffering the losses, or paying for protection then ultimately thats what they will do and vice versa.

I meant pirates = RPG and tanker = not hard to hit even if the crew are ex-SEALs.BlueHen86 wrote:ex-SEAL = RPG? I'm not sure one has to follow the other. I like the idea of having crew members with elite military training on board. They'll know when and how to resist and when not to.houndawg wrote:

Not all the ships in the area are tankers.
I don't think any of the tankers in the area are sailing under the U.S. Flag.
The ship owners must weigh the risk/reward of shipping in that area of the world. Right now it's probably cheaper for them to pay the ransom than it is resist. That doesn't mean we should stop looking for ways to defeat the pirates.

Because they always expect the US to come running to their defense. Some things never change.houndawg wrote:That's what a ship owner was sayig on the news a little earlier.BlueHen86 wrote:
