Where do you think Fed funds come from? As a taxpayer, do I get to look at a breakdown of how my income tax dollars are used and decide which funds I don't agree with and then deduct from my witholding? It comes as no shock that as a dem operative, you don't see the connection between income taxes & federal funding..

a more apt analogy would be you refusing to buy an energy-efficient refrigerator and collecting the tax break for doing so. the government has set up both for taxpayers and other government entities, incentive programs to do the right thing (whether you agree they are the right thing is a different argument)... refusing to partake in them is your prerogative, but that's what the funds (or tax breaks as it were) are there for

the school lunch program really isn't any different from the rest of education funding. it's all tied to the same basic thing - we set standards and goals for the development of our kids, and we have various ways of promoting that... given the problem with childhood obesity, it's not surprising that such a step was taken. (and, before you say it... no, i don't think limiting kids to one school lunch dessert a week will fix it either... but it's one step of many)

i agree - my p.e. was a joke... i figured out my freshman year that if i dressed out and took the paper tests i could pass with a C while refusing to participate... so i did. didn't help that our PE was all team sports, and there were 4 future pro athletes in my classes...

Besides, nutrition is already taught now, from pre-school all the way through high school. What people do with that knowledge is an entirely different matter, but kids today are certainly given that knowledge.

The Great Train Robbery is ridiculously well crafted - the man could write - it's a well researched work up of the original event that shocked the world of the wealthy elite in the 1850's... Edward Pierce was probably the most fascinating man alive at that time (much like AZGF is today)
