They suck equally for different reasons but the Dems might be in deeper shit. It really is dumb to vote for or support either party at this point.AZGrizFan wrote:And yet they keep clamoring that "the Republican Party is imploding! The Republican Party is a thing of the past! That's why you support policies, and not politicians. And since no person or party will be a perfect match to every issue you stand for, you are forced to support the person or party that is in favor of policies that you think is better for the majority of people in the country.kalm wrote:They suck equally for different reasons but the Dems might be in deeper shit. That's right. Well said.
I guess there's only one member of the kalmunist party.
Although, since money is speech, a fundraising effort might double or triple that number!

You are "forced" because that is the only way things will change. That is how the system works. You can't have an effect on the outcome of the game by sitting on the bench.

Political change requires collective political action. And political parties, for all their faults, provide organization and focus for that action. If you want "progressive" change, kalmie, and you don't support the Donks (generous assumption on my part), organize an effective party that adopts your views.

But the smart people know that it is a wasted vote at the top level of government at this time, especially if there is a drastic difference, between the ruling parties, on major issues. The third party must become strong at the State level before it can be a force at the Federal level.

And the few Libertarian gains at the state and local levels have been almost entirely converts from the GOP. Very few "native" Libertarians have been elected to office. And, given that most of them look and act like Wayne and Garth, that's not likely to change soon.CAA Flagship wrote:Of course.kalm wrote:

Sanders and Lieberman are two Dems that have gone Indy. Re: 2017 Special Elections
I'll never forget when Bill Buckley, as head of something called the "Horse's Ass Society", supported Joe Lieberman in his Senate race against the insufferable blowhard Lowell Weicker. Weicker went from GOP to Indy late in his career: sort of like James "Benedict" Jeffords.CAA Flagship wrote:Sanders and Lieberman are two Dems that have gone Indy.
