Probably should start thinking about not having schools closed between November and April every year and moving all sporting events and large gatherings outside of those windows as well. Should think about the year starting in April, then they can push back New Year's Eve to a time less likely to get people sick. Just to be safe.![]()
Just look at this as an opportunity.....unless you believed in Trump's overinflated #FakeStockMarket and were "all in".

I did see a person driving down I-80 yesterday, with a mask, on my way back to Minnesota.

...have people actually take the flu shot (unless you can't). Those that refuse and anti-vaxxers can be exempt from society.
Add in MMR and any vaccines we come up with for Covid-19.

Agreed, even when it's not effective, it's still better than nothing.GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 8:47 amI'm all in favor of required vaccinations. Flu included. They don't always work, last year's (2018-19) flu vaccine wasn't aligned well with the flu strain that was predominate and the number of people who died were almost double (close to 80,000 in the US alone). But I have no problem squaring liberty with required vaccinations where applicable.
On the other side, this year's flu vaccine has been effective (~50%, which we haven't had since 2013-204). Considering how brutal this year's strain is, it was a great time for scientists to come up with an effective vaccine, and a good case year for why it's important to take it.

Costco shoppers in Minnesota are in trouble. Costco is sold out of TP. Went to the local grocery store and there was ample supply for my usual purchase.

Re: Coronavirus
Yup, most of the times they get it close enough to right with the flu vaccine cocktail that it's not too bad. With that said, "not too bad" is still something like 30,000 people, mostly elderly or those with compromised immune systems (but some healthy folks too) who die every year, and tens of millions that still contact the flu. Every year. In the US alone. And even then, the same things that we're talking about now - good hygiene, staying home when most likely to spread it, etc, are the same best preventions. Widespread fear and panic never seem to be on that list of best ways to prevent the spread, assuming you can ever really prevent the spread of these things anyway.∞∞∞ wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:04 amAgreed, even when it's not effective, it's still better than nothing.GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 8:47 am

Re: Coronavirus
Stuff just got really real in our school district - they're canceling the elementary school lip syncs that were scheduled in the next few weeks.
On a related note, if I had know this would be all that it would take to cancel these things I would've been advocating for hyper-controls of potential pandemics years ago. Would've saved me a lot of lost evenings over the years.

University of Maryland about to announce they want kids to stay home for two weeks following spring break. 89Jr will only have a few weeks left on campus before graduation (if they have one).

Daily map from the DailyMail:

MTN West & Dakotas & parts of the deep South not affected.
Weird above only about 118 cases/15% in Red/Trump states.

You knew it was bound to happen. When the Tornadoes couldn't put them away early in the 4th, you could feel the momentum shift, just like in the Super Bowl. I think this is the Viruses' game to win, honestly. Tornadoes appear to have lost their mojo.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:50 pmNow Corona Viruses 26, Nashville Tornadoes 24AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:41 pm
The game has REALLY tightened up as we approach the 2 minute warning. The Viruses have rattled off 11 straight points, getting a long breakaway TD from Keith SARS, followed by a 2-point conversion. They held the Tornadoes to a 3-and-out, then settled for a FG by Ebola Jones and have closed what once seemed like an insurmountable lead to just 2 points:
Nashville Tornadoes - 24
Corona Viruses - 22
2:13 left in 4th quarter

Anecdotal Washington DC Hysteria Alert:
I estimate I've seen about 5,000 people today and have only noticed 2 with masks. I have noticed a few more conspicuously carrying/using antibacterial products.

Re: Coronavirus
So I think a few people might have brought this up already, but it'd be interesting to see if closures around the world become a case study for the benefits (or negatives) - if any - of large portions of the population working or studying from home. Even with public schools, perhaps we find good reasons to shift some in-person teaching to the digital sphere.
Less resources used building infrastructure, less wear and tear on roads and public transport, less energy used, less pollution, etc.

If you believe this expert, we’ve seen nothing yet. And he’s been solid at predictions. Exponential spread and death rates 10-15 times that of the flu. Italy is already experiencing shortages of healthcare workers and beds which shows the potential for killing way beyond the virus itself.
