Correct. Poly will have a hard time developing lineman. Perhaps a hybrid with a little more passing? Dunno.

You don't need 300+ lb OL's for the TO.

Exactly. And it’s hard recruiting them to Poly. But Wulff is not a TO coach.

NoCo Hires Ed Lamb
As previewed in another thread, Ed Lamb will be the new coach at Northern Colorado. Lamb was the head coach at Southern Utah from 2008-15 where he posted a 45-47 record, 1 Big Sky title (2015), 1 Great West title (2010), and 2 playoff appearances (2013, 2015). He spent the last 7 seasons as the assistant head coach at BYU.

I'd like to see someone give the incredible Mike Canales a shot....

Jay Hill Gone from Weber
Jay Hill will leave Ogden, head down to the other end of the Salt Lake strip, and become the BYU defensive coordinator. Hill went 67-38 in 9 seasons with the Wildcats. He won 4 straight Big Sky titles (2017-Sp2021) and had a 6-6 record in the FCS playoffs.

Also rumors in the Pete Thamel (ESPN) thread that Taylor will be hired at Stanford. Not sure if it would be OC or HC.Mvemjsunpx wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 11:27 pm Jay Hill will leave Ogden, head down to the other end of the Salt Lake strip, and become the BYU defensive coordinator. Commerce Hires Clint Dolezel
Texas A&M-Commerce has gone with Lion alum Clint Dolezel to be their head coach. Dolezel is currently the head coach of the Beijing Dragons of the Chinese Arena Football League, and he was also simultaneously the head coach of the IFL's Frisco Fighters from 2020-21. Dolezel's entire coaching history and professional playing history have come for various Arena/Indoor teams, so this looks like an… interesting hire.

North Alabama Hires Brent Dearmon
I missed this one last week, but UNA has gone with FAU offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon. He spent the last 4 seasons as an OC for 3 different FBS schools. Dearmon's only college head-coaching job was a one-year stint at NAIA Bethel in 2018; they went 10-1 and lost in the first round of the NAIA playoffs.

South Carolina St has allowed their OC Bennett Swygert to leave he was the guy who bought their dormant passing game into the 21st Century and made Shaq Davis a NFL PROSPECT.

Deion Sanders Poaches Vincent Dancy
Vincent Dancy, the head coach at Mississippi Valley State, will leave to become the safeties coach at Colorado. Dancy only went 10-38 at MVSU, but that was still better than his predecessor's 6-38 record.

Lazy hire. With what Poly has to offer as a campus and an athletic department, they could have done a real search and brought in an up and coming coordinator. This is the type of hire Sac State would have pulled pre-Nelsen/Orr. That said, CP has no where to go but up.kalm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:50 amThat might be a good hire. I assume he continues the move away from the TO? He was never a TO guy before. Probably a hybrid offense like we’re seeing so much of today. 300 + lb OL’s with high SAT’s don’t grow on trees.Mvemjsunpx wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 1:17 am Cal Poly will announce their new head coach tomorrow. Taylor could be headed to Stanford. No confirmation other than the "other finalist" Jason Garrett saying he's not taking the job via Twitter (see other thread).

Troy Taylor Officially Gone to Stanford Now
Taylor went 30-8 overall and won 3 Big Sky titles in 3 years (not counting Spring '21) with a 23-1 conference record. His only relative blemish during his time in Sacramento was going 1-3 in the playoffs despite getting all 4 games at home.

I'll take that "blemish" considering our history. The BSC title three-peat will be savored for the rest of our history.Mvemjsunpx wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 3:31 pm Taylor went 30-8 overall and won 3 Big Sky titles in 3 years (not counting Spring '21) with a 23-1 conference record. This is why it sucks to be a Griz fan sometimes. If Bobby had won 3 straight conference titles, but had that playoff record, people would be doing exactly what they're doing now. It's insufferable.SDHornet wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 5:38 pmI'll take that "blemish" considering our history. Hell of a run by Sac, and if you promote Thompson, hopefully it can continue.

Re: Troy Taylor Officially Gone to Stanford Now
We'll see who Taylor takes with him. Richardson or Thompson would be a good hire. I think Richardson will follow Taylor, they were buddies or something as high school coaches. Taylor brought him to Sac. Thompson is an animal of the BSC and I wouldn't mind seeing a defensive minded team. Fresquez is a Hornet alum and could slide into the OC role (again assuming Taylor doesn't take him too) who has been the QB coach under Taylor. Promoting someone from the current staff can retain that continuity and salvage our early recruiting class.uofmman1122 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 6:32 pmThis is why it sucks to be a Griz fan sometimes. Worst thing that could happen is that neither Richardson or Thompson are around to be promoted and we have to hire from outside. That would essentially throw away all the gains of the past 3 seasons (4 years).
The only tricky thing here is that our President is retiring this spring, but I think he'll want to see this hire through with our current AD, Orr. In addition to the Taylor hire, we've had great hires/retentions in other sports so I'm confident they'll make a solid hire either way. No reason for Hornet fans to be dooming about our future.
