Excellent points you raise. I agree, the offense is nothing to fear unless a consistent vertical passing game magically develops. Running the ball and screens are the bread and butter for the Bison offense.bpcats wrote:I think at this time of year with the weather being what it is you can throw a lot stats out the door. Passing games are going to be limited to short to intermediate attacks.
NDSU has a massive offensive line avg 300 lbs across the board and their freshman OT is very mobile. They come right at you (like last years Griz teams) and you have to gear up to stop the run/screen game. The one thing that was mentioned during the game was that Robert Morris did not sub out their defensive line all game or did it on a limited basis. MSU defensive line goes 2-3 deep and we sub a lot. I think that it will be important that the linebackers fill their running lanes effectively. It looked to me that the QB locked onto #81 a ton (he is talented receiver). Their QB looked to me like Mitchell (from EWU) looked liked earlier in the year where his timing was just off with his receivers. MSU has faced power running teams before and have done alright.
Offensively there is really nothing that scares me about NDSU. Just have to gear up for a very physical ball game.
When MSU takes the field they will have to be aware that NDSU's defensive line does a good job getting their hands up in the passing lane. MSU doesn't really have a power run game but will stretch the play from side to side looking for a crease. We do a pretty good job passing blocking and getting the Qb on the edges to make plays. It seemed to me the NDSU's defensive line really controlled the line of scrimmage against R. Morris and allowed their linebacker to run free to make the play. The plays the R. Morris was successful in running is a specialty of the Bobcats so it will be an interesting battle.
Sounds like a job for Montanan.CatMom wrote:we need an icon of someone spewing hot air - seriously. is there one out there?

It means that JBB is a nut job, likely DSM diagnosable, and hasn't taken his meds.CatBlitz22 wrote:I was wondering the same thing.Grizalltheway wrote:

Heagle is a special player. He's going to be a fun one for us Bison fans to watch over the next 3 years if his freshman year is any indication of how he will continue to play. The D is the strength of this team for sure. That will be the key to this game. If our D keeps your offense out of the endzone and isn't on the field to much we have a good chance in this one. If our offense can't sustain drives or starts out the game like they did last week we are in trouble. I expect a good game and don't really think it will be a blowout either way.gotts wrote:Excellent points you raise. On defense the Bison stop the run between the tackles well with an above average defensive line. I've noticed this year, from mobile QB and RB alike, that most big gains have come on the edges. For some reason the defense seems out of position or a step slow right away. If Montana State capitalizes early, it could be a long day for the Bison.
It'll be interesting to see how the true freshman safety Heagle plays, he had some nice stuffs at the line or in the backfield against RMU and seems to have a natural nose for the ball.
I'm not going to venture out and say anything about MSU, because quite frankly, I haven't watched them play and am not going to make any guesses based on stats!
Good luck Cats!
It's some stupid thing their PA guy screams into the microphone before EACH DAMN KICKOFF. It's annoying and retarded. Goes a little something like this...CatBlitz22 wrote:I was wondering the same thing.Grizalltheway wrote:

Yes, 8 games ago we had our one truly bad day. And I would much rather face NDSU than MSU again.cats2506 wrote:Yes, but he wants a do-overTheHerd wrote:

so do I
I've seen em' all play a few times (MSU & EWU about 6 each) and NDSU is a way better matchup for you guys for sure.kalm wrote:Yes, 8 games ago we had our one truly bad day. And I would much rather face NDSU than MSU again.cats2506 wrote: Yes, but he wants a do-over

You still have to win this weekend first.kalm wrote:Yes, 8 games ago we had our one truly bad day. And I would much rather face NDSU than MSU again.cats2506 wrote: Yes, but he wants a do-over

No doubt and SEMO looks to be a tougher match up for EWU but I only saw SEMO play once.BisonBacker wrote:You still have to win this weekend first.kalm wrote:

Kind of like you, Beanie Boy. There is actually a bit of tradition involved in it, but I'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you.Willie wrote:It's some stupid thing their PA guy screams into the microphone before EACH DAMN KICKOFF. LakesBison, the foremost road fan and tailgater in Bison City calls his camp the rainforest. I understand he is in negotiations right now to establish his "Rainforest tailgate Camp" in a central location near the MSU football field as a place for all visiting NDSU fans to congregate. This is the approved GAC Tailgate Camp for all visiting BISON fans.Grizalltheway wrote:WTF does this mean?JBB wrote:
