And what conferences are their playoff wins against?
Well, they didn't play anybody as strong as a Big South team...

Good Lord, AZ. I love you like a brother (the normal kind, not the hillbilly incestuous kind), and I'll even accept that you're a watered down beer drinking guy, but I'm throwing the flag on you for this one.

:flag:

Last year the Patriot game EWU, at home, all it could handle, Patriot teams have given 3-peat Appy, at home, all they could handle, and the Griz just got whipped, at home, by a no-defense Big South (known affectionately as the Big Fluffy South) team and those Utes (think Joe Pesci), with a supposedly good D for a Big Fluffy Sky team, got destroyed by a Southland (known affectionately as the Fluffy Southland) team.

I stand corrected. EWU is a 2 point favorite.

UNH is getting 21. I would take the points.

Feel like I am spitting into the wind with this, but I'll try one more time. The comment about NOVA's schedule being middling is ridiculous. Everyone that does SOS ratings for FCS has their SOS in the top 5. No matter how you try to spin it, that's a fact.

By agreeing that teams like W&M (SOS 9), DE. (SOS 27)and Nova (SOS 2) shouldn't have been in the field you are agreeing with the selections of Samford (beaten 55-14), Southern Utah (beaten 51-20) and South Carolina State (beaten by 10 by a five loss Furman team)

All three of these selections were all at large selections with the magic number of 8 and 9 wins and had low SOS. I think SC State SOS was something in the 80's. To quote another poster "most knowledgeable fans of FCS football" knew they weren't any good. Naturally they were all well beaten in the preliminary round. They were poor selections. That's my point. No one here seems to think SOS has any merit in FCS. I just don't get it.

I know the computer rankings are REALLY unpopular on this site but any of them would have predicted those defeats.
Win more games. It's as simple as that. Schedule a 12th game and win it. You'd probably have been in. Don't leave it in the hands of a selection committee.
UNI was 7-5 against a good schedule and didn't get in. I don't think they deserved to be in but I also understand where vutomcat is coming from. Youngstown, Nova, UNI and others were better than many of the at larges that were invited. Tough sh!t in the end, UNI and the others needed to win one more game and they didn't.

I understand that, but I feel like they needed one more win to get in. They should not have lost to UNH, and that wound up killing them in the end. IMO, schedule a team like Fordham at home instead of on the road (especially if they play only 11 games), so it gives them a better chance for a win. If anything, this shows Nova should make up an easier schedule from now on.

OK, back to beating down nova fans.
Classic coming from you. Go back down the hole you came out of.

Strength of schedule only matters if you have 8 wins. With 5 losses, you don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Any suggestion otherwise shows that the playoff field has expanded too include too many teams.

That said, it is troubling when teams like SC State get in, as it doesn't take a genius to figure out a 3-loss team from the MEAC probably isn't any good.

who is "more deserving" - a 7-5 team with all d1 wins or an 8-4 team with 3 sub d1/non counter Ws?

Unless you play in a really crappy conference and can get an auto. The ones I can think of...

2002 - Montana State (7-5)
2003 - Montana State (7-5)
2010 - Coastal Carolina (6-5)
2013 - Lafayette (5-6)

0-4 in the first round... shocker. :coffee:

Lafayette I'll give you, but Fordham would have beaten Coastal Carolina.

And then there was a team called Colgate who walked through the playoffs until the finals.

That was a decade ago, and they beat juggernauts like WIU and FAU to get there. They then proceeded to get skunked by the first good team they faced. :dunce:

And, Fordham would not have beaten CCU.

So in this year's playoffs, the CAA did not lose to any team that isn't another CAA team or NDSU. Is it obvious now? No other conference matches the depth of talented teams that the CAA has.

That's pretty much it.

I still think NDSU destroys Towson, but it's been back to normal for the CAA this year. Look at the CAA teams that missed the playoffs (Nova, W&M, Delaware) and they likely would have won a couple of playoff games each.
