That is going to depend on them having their scholarships down to 63 at that time. It shouldn't be real hard because they have been operating around the 70-75 mark for years now. They are at 71 last year I think. Once they are legit FCS they will be able to split some schollies and so forth that they can not right now so they may lose a couple players but not necessarily need to if some agree to reductions...or just new ones coming int he next couple years are split up while normal attrition takes place with seniors leaving.CaseyOrourke wrote:I think this is wishful thinking on their part. It sounds like they actually believe that just because they were FBS, they can just waltz into the Big Sky and suddenly become the "cock of the walk."This is a reset for our football program. We believe Big Sky football will be positive for our athletes and position them to succeed on the field -- our head football coach and I expect Idaho to compete for an FCS championship in 2018.
Frankly, they aren't much higher that North Texas is in the FBS food chain, and the world saw what we did to them last season. They better be ready to prove it on the field
Would they even be eligible to participate in the FCS playoffs?

BTW, younger Petrino is a very good coach. He will also probably put some hurt on UM and MSU for Helena, Butte, Billings, or basically some MT kids due to ties from family and through Carroll College.

Can players who want to stay FBS transfer out without penalty?

Transfer rules still apply. Also read that since the move is to the FCS and its official players can not transfer FCS without sitting either. Sounds like a double whammy

Yeah, not many for sure but it is a stronger chance at losing a Montana kid than we've probably had in quite a while.Grizalltheway wrote:Honestly who would choose Moscow and the Kibbie dump over Missoula and WaGriz?Ursus A. WTF was Idaho thinking moving to FBS without expanding their 10k stadium? They have to pay for 15k seats per home game. Right out of the blocks you take a LOSS. Like what the hell was the plan??? smh

Made as much sense as planning a massive expansion with no money to paying for it and a fan base that averages about 7k fans per game anywayBlackFalkin wrote:WTF was Idaho thinking moving to FBS without expanding their 10k stadium? We've averaged a sell out the past 4 or 5 seasons. Last year it was 9500. So yes, when you're turning people away ,you've raised your profile signifcantly, and enrollment is exploding and expected to continue (another 5k by 2020) it's probably a good time for expansion...fund raising failures notwithstanding.

Besides, I'd rather have PSU and WSU in our part of this, whether it's "divisions" or "leagues." Additionally, we have no business taking on yet another school outside the footprint in NMSU. I wouldn't mind dumping SUU and the Sioux, either. Bringing up Pueblo would be MUCH better than having those two....

EWU 2015 Avg. 9,577 - Sold out every week. (Played UM in Missoula)
Uni 2015 Avg. 11,549 - struggling

Difference of only 1,972 fans. If only EWU had the space to fit more fans.....

UNI's worst attendance in well over a decade. Made worse by the fact that UNI had all of the big games on the road - Illinois State, NDSU and SDSU were all road games, played 2 home games before Halloween and started conference play 0-3. All of that considered UNI's attendance being where it was isn't too shabby...Oh, and the Hawkeyes 90 miles down the road finished the season #5, in the Big 10 title game and Rose Bowl.BlackFalkin wrote:When EWU gets the east side of Roos Field squared away uni is toast!clenz wrote: Made as much sense as planning a massive expansion with no money to paying for it and a fan base that averages about 7k fans per game anyway

The home slate was EWU (6-5), Western Illinois (6-5), South Dakota (5-6), Indiana State (5-6), Southern Illinois (3-8). A playoff game on Thanksgiving weekend against a dogshit Eastern Illinois also hurt. Regular season UNI averaged over 12,500 per game.
The last decade has UNI averaging right at 13K, give or take a hundred.
This year UNI will average 14-15K given the home slate finally looks good again with all rivals at home - NDSU, SDSU, SIU, Missouri State and then Montana OOC.

Hey, I honestly respect what EWU has been doing and they are not the poorly attended space they once were. The coaches, team, and the fans are doing a really good job making that place something really good.
The administration there has really got to get things moving to keep the momentum moving in the direction it is.

That picture is deceiving. The stands don't even go endzone to endzone and there are 10 rows of seats that stretch only 30-30 on the other side.

Pretty sure that's literally never happened.
It's nice to know that your D1 university has plans to finally outdraw/build high schools in Iowa though...about time.

The athletic department has done a great job raising our profile, increasing donations, and making incremental improvements to Roos ...Jumbotron and audio, stadium apparel shop, new upper level parking, improved concessions. It's not as if we've been idle and the game day experience is way ahead of where it was in 2009.
If we could remove the track and add even the same type and size of erector set seating on the east side as we have in the north end zone, we'd be in decent shape.
