The Liberty Low-Down
I’ve heard some complaints that none of the LU posters do anything but post in the game thread and that you don’t know anything about Liberty (except that it’s Falwells school).
Well the reason most of you haven't heard about Liberty (at least not in the football world) is because our football program has been rather irrelevant until our current coach Danny Rocco moved to town. Since then we have won the last 3 Big South Championships and when we do it again this year it will give us an auto-qualifier for the post season (most of you probably knew that but just to make sure).
With this success the school has increased it financial support to football. We recently completed a new 48,000 square-foot Football Operations Building in ’06 and are currently in the process of expanding our stadium. This includes a 34,000 square-foot press box with 16 suits (to be completed by this fall). The plan is too increase the stadiums overall capacity to 30k in the next 5 years.
Needless to say LU while a relatively new school (it was just founded in 1971) is definitely on the rise in the FCS division and you will continue to hear more from us in the future.
GO LU!!!

Just make sure to bid high if you make the playoffs so you don't get shipped to App or whichever CAA team is seeded

i think the only way to get a high bid is to beat BOTH Ball St AND JMU. If we beat one of them i think we'll be in the middle somewhere. if we lose to both i fear we're doomed for a CAA team in the first round.Silenoz wrote:Just make sure to bid high if you make the playoffs so you don't get shipped to App or whichever CAA team is seeded

What, do you think we're all fucking clueless on this site? We're well aware of Liberty football and have been for years. It's great that you're getting better and finally built some infrastructure for your football team. That doesn't mean we're all going to bow down and anoint you to any special place in the FCS world. Win a championship or two and you'll gain some respect. From the class of 09 wrote:I’ve heard some complaints that none of the LU posters do anything but post in the game thread and that you don’t know anything about Liberty (except it’s that Farwell school).

Mike:
That's not what he was saying. The "bid" isn't a seed. It's just what it says: a playoff-bound school bids a certain amount of money to the NCAA for the privilege of hosting a game. Most of the tournament entrants are NOT seeded (unlike hoops) and can get sent just about ANYWHERE. The committee tries to regionalize the brackets somewhat, but the money bid also factors into that. That makes for a real danger for a school like Liberty, which could EASILY get sent to App when straight seeding would have them play, oh, say, Weber.
Ursus and the others feel free to correct any of this. I think I have it at least mostly right, though. Unless there's going to be a major overhaul with the additional seeds.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: The Liberty Low-Down
What SH said. The top four teams are seeded, and the other matchups are determined by region and the school that hosts is the one who gives the NCAA the bigger bid between the two in that matchup.kuntryboimike wrote:i think the only way to get a high bid is to beat BOTH Ball St AND JMU. But I will say you are "doomed" for a CAA school or App St in the first round, the geography screws you. It just comes down to how badly does Liberty want a home field?

I spoke with Rev Falwell about a partnership before he passed away. We both agreed that God hate fags. We also agreed that America deserved 9/11. I couldn't get him to agree with the funeral protests and incest though. I always admired his fundraising and political meddling. That boy had charisma. The only people I can get to follow me are my family, motorcyclists and cops.

Re: The Liberty Low-Down
Nice work there SH. You got it pretty nailed down. The reason that Liberty could very easily get a home game in the first round is that if they are not paired with a JMU, App, or Delaware they have a real chance of outbidding whoever they are paired with. Even JMU has been pretty tight on the purse strings.SuperHornet wrote:Mike:

The seeds will not be playing in the opening round so that is the only way they wouldn't have a chance because the bid wouldn't matter if they are paired with a seed.
If they get to the playoffs and get the right bracket and the right opponents (Cheap bidders) then they have a chance to have more than one home game.
I'm pretty excited to see the NEC and Big South in the playoffs this year and see what happens.

Good to see Liberty stepping up and joining the facilities arms race. The Flames, JMU, Delaware, Jax State, ODU, Ga State playing in the Dome, and my Mountaineers are beginning to separate themselves from the crowd on the Atlantic Seaboard. Looking for that 8th school to step up and bring a new conference closer to reality.

Bids don't come into play until after the pairings are made. If LU wins the Big South AQ what they bid will have zero bearing on whether or not they are paired with a seeded ASU or seeded CAA.Silenoz wrote:Just make sure to bid high if you make the playoffs so you don't get shipped to App or whichever CAA team is seeded
