5 Markets That NEED FCS Football

Post by BlackFalkin »

5.Orange County, Ca ---Aside from the 100$-3,000$ ticket prices @ the Coliseum & Rose Bowl. Southern California has NO live football. Especially OC & South County.... This is real starving market with tons of cash.

4.West Texas-- West Texas has Utep & unfortunately they arent that great, and doesn't give West Texas it's football fix that is in demand in that area.

3.Minnesota-- The Vikings & Golden Gophers arent gonna cut it for the entire state. The Gophers are also in the middle of building a brande new stadium, which will probably cause sell outs, and also high ticket prices. An FCS team is just what the doctor ordered.

2.Wisconsin--As we all know, people in Wisconsin love the Packers.... They also like the Badgers, whom play in an 80k stadium thats always packed. My guess is, an FCS, with a 10-15k stadium would fit right in and be loved by the state.

1.The Entire state of Wyoming---Having only 1 FBS team & NO FCS or NFL team, Wyoming is probably the most pathetic state, when it comes to live football. Wyoming should probably have two FCS teams, to build up the state, as well as giving the people something to do and root for. So when it's late November, & the Cowboys are 4-7 and done for the year, the residents of Wyoming can still cheer for Wyoming State U, & Northern Wyo University fighting for that trip to Chatty during the FCS Playoffs.

Good list. Only one issue. Gotta build the universities in Wyoming first

5.Orange County, Ca --- Yes. Fullerton and a couple others have the facilities to do it now... i think it'd be good for that area.

4.West Texas-- Angelo State has a 17,000 seater in San Angelo - would be a great set up for FCS

3.Minnesota-- NDSU, UND, USD, SDSU and UNI all within a few hours drive... no need in MN. The demand for college football around here isn't that great. there are something like 11 d-3 schools with football in the twin cities... but with the Gophers, Twins, Vikings... so many sports options in the Twin Towns... i dont think there's a market for it.

2.Wisconsin-- an FCS team for Marquette or UWGB would be a good FCS market

1.The Entire state of Wyoming-- outside of Cheyenne is there a city big enough to handle another college in Wyoming? and if so that's a long process

I like the list BF. Well done.

I'll add Vermont to the list. Only New England state with no Division I football.

Vermont would be a perfect fit for the CAA.

UVM elevating from club level would be awesome....even more reason for America East to get off its ass, sponsor football and force its full members to play football in conference.

Here's a cool story I read awhile back from the New York Times about the club football team at Vermont. Inspirational read. :thumb:

I remember seeing something on ESPN a few years ago regarding Vermont's football program. There is an effort being made to move up from club status, but I haven't heard anything recently.

I'll tell you one thing..those Catamount sports fans are dedicated. They have some rabid basketball fans that eat, sleep and breath Vermont basketball and have done so for many years. It would be cool if you transferred over to a football program.

There is no BIG FCS in NJ. Okay Southern NJ, where I'm from. We never thought of Princeton and football in a big way. There's Rutgers in FBS but nobody ever thought about them either. Frankly, when I was growing up nobody rooted for Rutgers and currently they only get support if they are winning.

Southern NJ is good football country and big supporters of the Eagles. There used to be Glassboro State (Now Rowan College) but I don't know of any current Colleges/Universities below Trenton that could even start to think about having a competitive team, let alone one that could move up to DI anytime soon.

Guys I went to school with looked at Penn State as their football mecca (think Franco Harris who went to my dad's HS) or Ohio State and alot of the CAA FCS schools. Two from my school and class went to Penn State also, one to Houston (of all places)

Just a thought.

Nice list... but Wyoming... Before you can build Universities you've got to have people willing to live there.

Wyoming has no other college or university that plays football. Casper College would be the best bet, but they've only got basketball and volleyball.. and rodeo.

Doesn't West Texas have Texas Tech as well, who are pretty good at football? Western Nebraska could use some football, Chadron State would be a nice school to move up.

TX Tech is all the way up in Lubbock... a LONG way from Odessa/Midland/San Angelo where nearly 500,000 people live and HS teams draw 18,000/game...

The Big Sky tried to bring FCS to the greater Los Angeles area with Cal-State Northridge, but the Matadors could not get anyone there. They soon dropped football, left the conference and joined the Big West as a basketball school.

Minnesota is well represented by the FCS as the western part has both North Dakota schools and also South Dakota State. To the east, the Iowa schools do a fine job.

Wyoming, that is funny. Maybe someday when Cheyenne finds the money to fund more than one four year university, then we can find the Wyoming State Oilers and Northern Wyoming University Tumbling Tumbleweeds in the FCS.

My five would be...

1. Vermont---only state in the lower 48 with no DI program
2. Alaska---only other state besides Vermont with no DI program
3. Seattle
4. Las Vegas
5. Phoenix

No problem, facilities are in place in Casper, Sheridan, Powell, Riverton, Torrington, Rock Springs, Gillette, and Cheyenne.

Casper would probably be the first to get the four year status only because of politics. For better access for the entire state, Sheridan or Powell would be preferable since UW is in Laramie in the extreme south end of the state. No we have the infrastructure, just not the political will to allow another university to form up. There would be a hell of a fight over it.

That being said, BF is right on about our need for another football school up here. D-2 would even be a great improvement over what is available here and now.

In the past schools like Northern Colorado, Chadron State, Mesa State, Black Hills, and Carroll College have cleaned up recruiting here while UW spends all their time trying to compete for Texas, California, and Colorado recruits. On average Wyoming scholarships about two in state players every three years, so not even one a year.

Monmouth University plays FCS football on the shore in Monmouth County NJ.

I understand this isnt in the South Jersey Philly burbs, but it close. The only colleges even in that area are Rowan, Rutgers-Camden, and CCNJ I believe.
