NFL PAT rule changed
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

Re: NFL PAT rule changed
Call me a skeptic, but I don't see this changing much of anything. Coaches will still go for the kick, they'll still make an extremely high percentage, and the play will continue to be boring. Now, if they move the spot for the 2 point conversion in, say even half a yard, and then you might have something. Luckily, they only made this a one year change so they can improve on it next year when they realize this current change didn't do much of anything.

Well that wipes out the possibility of a fake kick for a two point conversion.
Unnecessary rule change.

It was pretty boring before. Now more teams will go for two.

But now the defense will KNOW they're going for two.Vidav wrote:It was pretty boring before. Now more teams will go for two.

Not completely. Sure, a fake from the 15 might be a bit harder, but it's certainly doable. The point that the 2 from the 2 is obvious to the defense makes the surprise of the fake for 2 from the 15 viable, particularly if one is dealing with a weak defense. All you have to do is shift out of kick formation into a spread, and the defense is caught short....CAA Flagship wrote:Well that wipes out the possibility of a fake kick for a two point conversion.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: NFL PAT rule changed
Not by any large margin, hence why the change is silly. If you really wanted more teams to eschew the extra point and go for two, move the line of scrimmage in a little bit (no more than the 1.5 yard line) and let them snap it from there. This change is like saying that things need to change, and then do nothing about it.Vidav wrote:It was pretty boring before. Now more teams will go for two.

How many fake XPs for a 2 point conversion have their been anyway? I'd be surprised if there were more than 5 and that may be a lot.CAA Flagship wrote:Well that wipes out the possibility of a fake kick for a two point conversion.

Re: NFL PAT rule changed
This chart shows the reason for the change. It used to NOT be automatic, and they are just trying to restore a bit of uncertainity to the XP. Good change.

Yup, going from 98% success to 96% success will just keep people on their edge of their seats when it comes time to kick the XP. There's probably a 99% chance that they'll change this again next year since they've essentially done very little now.dbackjon wrote:This chart shows the reason for the change. If you're moving the kick back, move the line back for two point conversions too. That'd make shit interesting. Otherwise sense make none.

Re: NFL PAT rule changed
Why would you move the line backwards for the two point conversion, i.e. why would you make it harder and less likely for people to try for the two point conversion? Did you mean move it forward?Willie wrote:If you're moving the kick back, move the line back for two point conversions too. That'd make **** interesting. Otherwise sense make none.

No, I didn't.
It means, stop messing with the damn rules. The game is just fine as it is.
