Literally had no idea that he wasn't that great of a driver on the circuit - I assumed with a name of "Bubba" that he was halfway decent. I'm clearly not one of the small handful of people that follow NASCAR.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
In his defense, about 99% of the wins in NASCAR (now that upstart outlier Furniture Row Racing folded and was essentially absorbed into Joe Gibbs Racing) come from the Joe Gibbs Racing, Penske, Hendrick, and Stewart-Haas teams plus Kurt Busch of Ganassi.
About the only time anyway else might win is if two thirds of the field is wiped out at Daytona or Talladega in a big wreck and a guy like Trevor Bayne steals a win. I thought that's how Danica might steal one, but she was usually causing the wreck. She straight could not drive a stock car.

Thank God F1 season starts tomorrow in Austria. Finally some watchable racing.

I had tickets to the New York E-Prix which was cancelled. Obviously understandable considering the circumstance, and the money was refunded, but it would've been my first Formula E race (and 2nd Formula race ever). Glad F1 returns though...good stuff.

And I don't like the incessant negro whining, but the black livery on the MB-AMG cars looks killer. They're running it all season.

Yeah it's pretty sweet. One of the best liveries to come out in quite a while.

Hamilton once again shows that he's the all-time master of racing in the slop. Pretty amazing to push 200mph on the straights in a downpour and basically dirt track it around the turns. Brass balls on that guy.

Boring race today. F1 made the mistake of pissing Lewis Hamilton off last week.
Also, LOL @ Ferrari. They are completely dysfunctional on top of being slow. Leclerc takes out the team on lap 1.

I chuckled when I watched that happen.
Seems that there are a few teams with engine problems happening.

Mercedes AMG team lockout of the front row and Mercedes engine lockout of the second row in qualifying for the Hungary GP.

Woot. Back to back weekenda at Silverstone.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
What a fun race at Silverstone (at least the last 10 laps). Had Red Bull not pitted VS to go after the fastest lap time, they would have won. The funny thing is, they should have known better as Bottas' tire had just blown and Hamiltons' front left was already blistering.
Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
I don't know why they didn't pit Hamilton with two laps to go. He was up 33 secs on Verstappen and it only takes 23 secs to cycle through an F1 pit.SDHornet wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 2:38 pm What a fun race at Silverstone (at least the last 10 laps). A rare mistake on Toto's part, but they won anyway.
Flaggy and I were discussing F1 a few weeks back. He said that only a mechanical failure can keep Hamilton from winning. Today, not even a mechanical failure could!

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
Yeah no kidding. Though I'd chalk the blown tire to "tire mismanagement" rather then "mechanical failure". Oh wells. Mclaren was on track to have a nice team finish until Sainz blew a tire late as well.93henfan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 6:06 pmI don't know why they didn't pit Hamilton with two laps to go. I thought Albon did well to finish in the points following that penalty.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
And Mercedes didn't learn how to manage their tyres (sic) last weekend either. Max with the win.
Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
They were definitely outstrategied (if that's a word) on Sunday. In retrospect, Red Bull's decision to start on hard tires with the full fuel load is a no-brainer. I think they also must have trimmed their car for less downforce and/or neg camber in the front, as even on the same fresh hard tires and fuel load late in the race, Red Bull tire wear was less. Mercedes has been worse in hot weather the last several years. It's just the way they set up their cars. They take a dip in the heat. Last year at Austria was the same deal.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
I was surprised they only went 7 laps on the medium tires and matched Bottas' pit, but it worked like a charm.93henfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 11:12 amThey were definitely outstrategied (if that's a word) on Sunday. Pink Mercedes team fell way off their poll positions as well.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
Pretty boring race up front, but a lot of action in the middle of the field. Not sure what Red Bull was doing with the hard tires on Albon as he came in for a 2nd pit anyways. Solid race by Vettel to climb the field coming off a horrible qualifying.
