Who knew the French had it in them? Btw, I'm digging France's uni's this year - they basically look like they stole uniforms right out of Tottenham's locker room, right down to the rooster. :thumb:

Honduras loss not looking so bad right now. France over Swiss 3-0. Still in the first half.

France takes 3-0 lead at 40 minute mark and the announcers said "that should be the fatal blow".
It's sad that the game is considered over with 50+ minutes left. :ohno:

When New Hampshire played Lafayette in the playoffs this past year the game was over before kickoff - that's sad that the game was considered over with 60 minutes left. :ohno:

No different than a NFL game getting to 21 or 24 zero before half.

There might be some a couple scores from the other team but the game is over 99% of the time

Costa Rica really are going to rest players against England. I can't think of a greater indignity in all our footballing history.

So I guess France wants to be considered a favorite. 3-0 over Honduras and then 5-0 with 15 minutes to go over the Swiss. If Honduras can find a way to beat Ecuador later, all 4 CONCACAF teams have a chance to move on.

Just an observation azz wipe. I don't follow soccer. Do you see very many (or any) non Asians playing for the Asian teams? Do you see any white or Asian guys playing for the African teams? I would have assumed the European teams would look mostly/all white, the Asian teams would look mostly/all Asian, the African team would look mostly/all black, etc.
Do the players have to be citizens of the countries they play for, or is it more of a free for all?

Do you need some kind of refresher course on colonization to answer these questions for you?

A lot of the players on France's team have roots in France's colonial holdings in Africa. It's not complicated. :?

Asia didn't have a lot of colonies in Africa. Africa didn't have a lot of colonies in Europe.

It's really not complicated.

Some African countries - like Algeria - rely on dual French - Algerian citizens who aren't good enough to make the French national team for their team. They may not look French to a racist... but, they're French.
BDKJMU wrote: Do the players have to be citizens of the countries they play for, or is it more of a free for all?
They have to be citizens and hold a passport of the country they represent. Countries (including the US) do compete for dual-citizens.

examples on the US team:
John Brooks: Born in Berlin, Germany, to an American serviceman father and a German mother.

Timmy Chandler: Born in Frankfurt, Germany, to an American serviceman father and a German mother.

Mix Diskerud: Born in Oslo, Norway, to a Norwegian father and an American mother.

Fabian Johnson: Born in Munich, Germany, to an American serviceman father a German-born mother who had an American father.

Jermaine Jones: Born in Frankfurt, Germany, to an American serviceman father and German mother.

Aron Johannsson: Born in Mobile, Ala., to Icelandic parents.

Julian Green: Born in Tampa, Fla., to an American serviceman father and a German mother; moved to Germany with his mother as a young child.
And, in case you think these guys don't "look very American"
Jozy Altidore: Born in Livingston, N.J., to two Haitian-born parents.

Alejandro Bedoya: Born in Englewood, N.J., to two Colombian-born parents

Tim Howard: Born in New Brunswick, N.J., to an African-American father and his Hungarian mother.

Omar Gonzalez: Born in Dallas, Texas, to Mexican parents.

And, this one will really make your head explode.

An American born soccer player... who chooses to play for Iran.

Both of your comments show how little you know of the world. Just like many former colonial powers, many of the former subjects immigrated to the home country. That is why England is full of Indians, Jamaicans, Kenyans, etc. Why France is full of Algerians, and other former colonial African subjects.

And they are full citizens of France. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Well! That Swiss-Frog game was incredible. I truly enjoyed watching that. I've etched quite a few of the games and I must say, I'm beginning to enjoy soccer.

I know that France has as you put it "darkies" but is overwhelmingly (about 85%) white. Just made a simple observation that their team looked half that. Was a contrast to the other Euro teams I saw (Germany (also had African colonies) & Croatia (saw the lineup & think it was 8 of 11 players names ended in "IC" and 1-2 in "AC".

True. When 12-13% of the population make up about 2/3 of the NFL and close to 80% of the NBA it tells you who the better athletes are on avg (over a whole population).

And I also watch football, too (more college than NFL).

I don't watch NHL (unless it's the Flyers in the playoffs) and that is the whitest of the major pro team sports. Also don't watch the 2nd whitest, baseball.

It's just under 1/3 of the team (roster is 23 players) who were foreign born (the fact that someone has foreign parents is not a big deal if they were born and grew up in the US) and only 2 of them started while 2 others came off the bench.
