Penn State Done After Week One

Post by 93henfan »

Temple whips their asses in Philly. 10 sacks for the Owls.

First Temple win over Penn State in 74 years.

The last time they had beaten Penn State was 50 days before the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor.

So you're saying we should go to Defcon 2 and start watching the skies?

There are some empty spots in the very upper corners, but those might have filled in with walkups by the end of the first quarter.

There's no denying that is a helluva crowd for a college football game not at the top five schools in the B1G, B12, or SEC. Kudos to Temple. Big game for their program.

I remember a time, not too long ago, when us Delaware fans would laugh at Temple and know that our program was far healthier and in better position to succeed in the long term. Now, Delaware's program is in shambles, we look to either be on the way to dropping football or sinking into an FCS/DII merger, and Temple is getting Penn State and Notre Dame to come to their house and play in front of 60k plus. But I'm sure, according to UD's AD, programs like Temple are just about to renounce their FBS status and will be moving down to FCS.

btw, loved the endzones for the game. Good stuff. :thumb:

Really just the trend coming back around to them. Their uniforms with the squares going down the pants looked dumb in the '80's and '90's, but look genius now.

Great point. The same uniform looked borderline silly on Paul Palmer and now it sort of fits right in with the UA and Nike experiments at Maryland and Oregon.

Is it even a home game when you're in an NFL stadium in a major city where your opponent has more fans than you do?

Sure it is, especially when after the first quarter it was all Temple fans making all the noise and getting to watch Penn State fans drift out of the stadium well before the end of the game.

You're describing Redskins games.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Temple is now 7-0 and ranked 22nd.

Penn State is 5-2 with their only losses to Temple and OSU.

Not bad.

Their 6 wins (they are 6-2) are Buffalo, Rutgers, SDSU, Army, Indiana, and Maryland, and they had to squeak out the wins against Army and Maryland.

Illinois this weekend might be their last win - Illini aren't any good and the game is in Happy Valley. But after that, they have to play legit teams - Northwestern on the road, Michigan at home, and end with Michigan St on the road. I see 7-5 and a bowl game just after Christmas. Surely not horrible, but nothing to write home about either.
