Went to a wonderful ball game at my alma mater last night. CSUs very humble field went through a few modest upgrades this year along with last year's lights addition. New stadium entrance/ticket area and new field turf. The turf just looks fantastic. I'll always prefer real grass....but I get it that long term it's cheaper. Beautiful sunset and sky at the field. The home stands were full and the students were very energetic. Wonderful night.
The team played well. 47-7 over ETSU. ETSU is a very young team in its first year since 2003. They were feisty and played hard. Some talented young kids....they're gonna be pretty good in a year or two.
The Bucs are off to a nice 2-1 start.

Did not expect ETSU to struggle this much...we shall see what the Bucs are really made of next Saturday.

The way they started out I was wondering whether they came to play or not. But that 2nd quarter explosion woke everybody up.

You want my guns? Come take them.

I did. They're all freshmen mostly. ETSU was a very strong program back before they dropped it. They're gonna be back soon. Just not this year, but they played very hard and physical. ETSU has a bright future.keydet21 wrote:Did not expect ETSU to struggle this much...we shall see what the Bucs are really made of next Saturday.

I want some of what you are smoking....ETSU was a very strong program back before they dropped it.

From our perspective when we played them from 1997-2001 they were. Obviously not GSU or Marshall powerful....but one of the better teams we played. I think in 97-98 they were a playoff team maybe.Aho Old Guy wrote:

Re: Charleston Southern 47 / East Tennessee St 7
I think you're misremembering how good they may have been
They were 108-159-1 their last 24 seasons (1980-2003)
Only 9 of their final 24 seasons were over .500
Only twice were they better than 1 game over .500 (96 and 97)
They had more zero win seasons than seasons more than 1 game over .500
Their last 7 years were 38-41 (98-03)
They were pretty much a lock for a record of between 4-7 and 6-5 every single year. I guess that isn't the worst program in the nation, but it's hardly anything more than "meh"
To be fair, compared to CSU over that same time frame ETSU was a pretty damn good program.

Yeah that's what I meant. We played em in the opener my freshman year in 97 when I think they were ranked high and coming off a playoff appearance. We were a new program and sucked haha. To us they were really good. I wasn't aware how average their entire history was though.clenz wrote:I think you're misremembering how good they may have been
