His comments come on the heels of news that Russia has begun carrying out strategic airstrikes in Syria on Wednesday. A Russian general, on behalf of a coalition being headed by Moscow, gave roughly an hour's warning to the U.S. to steer clear of the country's airspace as its warplanes joined in the fight against ISIS.

The U.S. State Department said Moscow's request would be ignored, adding that American jets would continue to fly missions as part of a separate air campaign to root out the militants.

What's the over/under on someone "accidentally" letting a missile slip and catch a Russian or coalition aircraft?
I think it's more likely that a US plane or drone will be shot down by a Russkie.

Maverick and Goose are ready on the deck...
We need them stat! Back in Top Gun we didn't let the Russians near our ships. Now they are allowed to buzz our ships within a hundred feet like in the scene where Maverick spills the Air Boss's coffee.

This happens more often than its reported. It's not uncommon for flybys.

Big deal. :coffee:

If Russia helped overthrow the Canadian government as we did in the Ukraine, we'd go ballistic. If Russia were trying to get Mexico into their defense alliance, we'd go ballistic.

We keep encroaching on Russia's sphere of influence...so what do we expect them to do? :dunce:

Getting back to this original thread...Putin stuck it to Obama in Syria.

No. These events are common but the reason this is being reported is A) it's Russia and B) the Navy deemed it unsafe.

Then just say that instead of apologizing for the lack of response. Fuck even Kerry said they could have shot them down.

It's adorable when the Russians fly their 40 year old war machines with no radar jamming system and no counter measure defense system fighters around our ships...

It's about as "threatening" as this...

Nailed it - 100%

I was in the cold war Navy and we used to laugh about this stuff -

and we gave it as good as we got.

I was more irritated at that twinkie spokesman at the WH press conference talking about "simulated attacks" ... what a moron. You'd think those Guevaristas would actually ask the Pentagon before they open their mouths and talk about military matters... but then they hate the Pentagon and the military anyway so no surprise they just decided to wing it

Attack formation? Any serious attack come from over the horizon. That DD would have splashed them at 80 NM if they had been for real

BTW those Sukhois are the equivalent of planes we already have in the boneyard out in Arizona somewhere

What we ought to do is find the one or two ships they have that aren't welded to the pier and fly over and drop tampons on them
