An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee shot and killed his next door neighbor, an 8-year-old girl, over an argument about a puppy Saturday, police said.
The young killer, a fifth-grade student at White Pine Elementary School, used his father’s 12-gauge shotgun to fire at Maykayla Dyer from inside his home around 7:30 p.m., WBIR reported.
The little girl, a third-grader at the same school, was hit in the chest and died in a hospital, police said.

Hurray for unlocked guns!!
Parents should be arrested, the other 5 kids taken away from them, since they are being raised in a dangerous home.

That's about the age I started hunting and learning gun safety and quit using the BB Guns. Most of my friends were hunting and handling guns at that age. Pitchfork nation will go after the parents though.

This story makes no mention of the 8 year old girl beating the dog with a tire iron in the 11 year old's back yard. WTF!?!?

Same here. At age 11 I was allowed to go out in the woods near my house alone and shoot squirrels.Gil Dobie wrote:That's about the age I started hunting and learning gun safety and quit using the BB Guns. What happens/ed to the father who owned the gun?
Lock him up.
Lock him up.

Re: 11-year-old Tenn boy shoots 8-year-old girl over puppy
1) The father should have practiced gun safety by locking it in a gun safe and/or using trigger locks. Gun safety would have avoided this.
2) Sounds like trailer trash (and looks like it)
3) There's no need to remove the other children, Jon. You're such a drama queen. However, the boy should be tried as an adult.

So we shouldn't be going after the parents for not teaching proper gun safety? I was always taught not to point one at another person, even if I knew it wasn't loaded.Gil Dobie wrote:That's about the age I started hunting and learning gun safety and quit using the BB Guns. I received a BB gun for my 10th birthday (still have it) and we had pellet guns. We'd take it out and shoot targets, cans, the occasionally raccoon. My parent's never locked or hid them. The shotgun was always in my fathers closet and the shells were in his top drawer. My dad taught us boys gun safety. He taught us responsibility, but also taught us that if we were to touch that gun and it not be life or death, then he'd beat our asses with Big Red (his red, leather belt).CID1990 wrote:Same here. Can you really prove the parent didn't teach it? The kid made a huge mistake, but we know children don't listen to their parents. I was told not to drink and drive. I did it anyway.Grizalltheway wrote:So we shouldn't be going after the parents for not teaching proper gun safety? Sounds like this kid was a bully, if this is true.
You always have to take this information with a grain of salt.“He was making fun of her, calling her names, just being mean to her. I had to go the principal about him and he quit for a while, and then all of a sudden yesterday he shot her.”

Not being a drama queen - I leave that for Gil.
These parents lack parenting skills. They are a danger to the kids.

Jon, you said
That's being over dramatic. We all know people that had strict, responsible parents who just couldn't control them. To an end, it is the parents fault. But let's be serious here.Parents should be arrested, the other 5 kids taken away from them, since they are being raised in a dangerous home.

Maybe we should run prospective parents through a mental health evaluation as suggested for gun purchases to see if they have mental defects that should prohibit them from from having kids. If they can't be fixed with meds or counseling, we should chemically castrate them.dbackjon wrote:Ibanez wrote:1) The father should have practiced gun safety by locking it in a gun safe and/or using trigger locks. Well it sure answers alot about throwing up on his own shoes, sleeping along creek beds and all the public masturbation charges he's had.Ibanez wrote:I honestly, don't know how to respond to that.
