Most Unfit GOP Candidate

Post by kalm »

I've heard several times that "Being There" is Peter Sellar's best movie. I need to see it sometime.

Oh... and this piece is spot-on about Carson. His popularity and the hope surrounding him cracks me up.
Donald Trump wants to round up 11 million people in two years for deportation. He approves of Russia’s incursion into Syria. He has a tax plan that adds at least $10 trillion to the debt. And with all that, he is not the most ignorant or unfit GOP presidential contender. That distinction goes to Ben Carson.

There is a Chauncey Gardner-like quality to Carson. He speaks softly, smiles a lot and lulls his audience into the belief he possess great insights and wisdom. He is an esteemed neurosurgeon and a lovely dinner speaker. He is, however, entirely unfit for the presidency, seemingly oblivious to basic historical facts, constitutional concepts and world events. Surely conservative Republicans, especially some in the right-wing media who have fawned over him, should have figured this out by now. :ohno:

Weekend Update on SNL was hilarious last night. They have two anchors now; a black guy and a white guy. The black guy said something to the effect of:

"This is the first time you'll ever hear me say this: DO NOT VOTE FOR THE BLACK GUY! When I first heard of him I thought, 'wow, this guy is a real brain surgeon.' And then I listened to him speak and I thought, "wow, this guy is a real brain surgeon."

 That summed it up perfectly.

I wasn't kidding when I suggested he would very likely be hit by a bus crossing the street...
He's the dumbest smart guy in politics right now

and the more chances he gets to "speak his mind" the more glaring his stupidity becomes

Anyone surprised that Alphie supported him before he ran off to Alaska? Anyone?

Ben Carson is a man who's very good at one thing. And that's fine...his career up to this point is very admirable. But the man seemingly ignores EVERY fact unrelated to neurosurgery. Each of us has a place in the world and some have more than one; Carson just has one and it's not politics.

I doubt he'll receive the nomination, but he'd get schooled in a debate vs. Clinton or Sanders.

Wow. Potent stuff, coming from WaPo's most conservative columnist, Jennifer Rubin.

At this point, I think the eventual GOP ticket will be Rubio-Fiorina. Trump and Carson will flame out.

If they flipped that to Fiorina-Rubio it would be a dream ticket. I don't think you pick up any women with Fiorina as the veep, but you'd definitely pick up the wetbacks with Rubio as veep. Race is stronger than gender. Minorities vote straight skin color.

anyone with a pulse could win a debate against those two-

With Sanders you just reply to each of his answers "how do you plan to pay for that?"

With Clinton you just ask her "how can we believe anything that comes out of your mouth?"

Clinton's got more baggage than Zsa Zsa Gabor going to her summer estate

Im really looking forward to crazy uncle Joe jumping in

You can agree or disagree with their politics, but the two are good debaters. They're obviously not perfect at it, but both know the art pretty well (especially Clinton). All of us can debate on a message board when we have time and resources to formulate opinions, but I think only a few of us could actually go toe-to-toe with a politician with their experience on a national stage. I doubt Ben Carson can. :twocents:

I'm no Ben Carson fanboy, but my God the bar has been set so low.
Seeing the Obama interview on 60 minutes tonight only solidified that fact. It was only a moderately difficult interview, but Obama looked like a guy who just woke up from a 10 year coma trying to use an iPhone. :silly:

Man, Obama was a defensive twit in that one.

And in the second segment, that current Louisiana prosecutor Dale Cox... that is one cold son of a bitch. Not really doing the south too proud there.

She was pretty good in 2007 (you can watch YT videos of it). Clinton was a standout debater in secondary school and college and you can tell it's translated well into her political career. I'm not saying she can't mess up, but she definitely takes time to study up and seems to have honed her debating skills over a lifetime. That said, age can take a toll on any ability that requires quick and reflexive brain signals and Clinton is certainly no young lady.

Which is odd, because, at times, Obama can still sound incredibly intelligent. He gave an interview to NPR last week where he was defending the Trans-Pacific trade deal and it was an absolutely well thought out, extremely detailed, and well reasoned defense. He had total grasp of the topic and sold it well. But the times he does that are few and far between these days. Maybe it's pandering to an increasingly simpleton voter base - most voters today can't stay focused for more than a few sentences.

lots of important law breaking had not yet happened in 2007

but its OK- CNN has her back- they wont be using Jake Tapper for the debate

Theyve got sensitive gay dude to throw softballs

I hope Webb lays into her

Winning the TV "debates" we have in the media as part of today's political realm is not about being able to win real debates. I know all you guys know that.

My vote for the most unfit GOP candidate would be Hillary Clinton.

I dont like any of those things

Im for strong defense (with smarter spending and less lighting dollars on fire) but thats where it ends for me

I just want someone with integrity

Only Webb and maybe one or two of the GoP hopefuls fit that bill (Sanders doesnt count)
