Well, at least you mention the Steelers this week (and I'm an Eagles fan, so I have no love for Pittsburgh), but you still have them too low. They're the only team that has a legit chance to go into Foxboro and win. You need to score on the Pats to beat them, which eliminated Denver (and really, Manning couldn't win in Foxboro when he was good, so what chance does he have to do it now when he's around Bradford's level?). And until Cincy wins a playoff game, I can't really see them being able to win a huge game there either. The Pats defense is their soft underbelly, and the Steelers have offensive weapons galore and almost beat the Pats this year with only some of them playing.

In the AFC it's the Pats, then Steelers, then Bengals, and then it doesn't matter.
In the NFC it's the Packers and then it doesn't matter.
Ranking are related to who's playing the best THIS SEASON

Pittsburgh isn't even going to win their own division so...
I don't see how they can rank above the team that is going to win the division

The Panthers have a the No.3 ranked Defense and the 6th ranked Offense and they haven't lost a game
Technically speaking the Panthers are out performing the Packers

Denver is winning games the same way the Ravens used to win games by giving up only 17 points per game
If you're going to ignore the elephant in the room that is the Bengals in ability to win in the postseason then why even do the rankings? I like the Bengals, I like Andy Dalton, but until they prove they can win in the postseason then they are suspect to say the least.

Oh, and technically, the Packers are just flat out better than the Panthers. The Giants had one of the highest ranked run defenses in the NFL and then got ran over last night by an Eagles team that hadn't run the ball on anyone. Statistical ordinal rankings in Week 5 or Week 6 are meaningless.

Not saying I'd put money on them to win in Foxboro in January, but I think the gap has at least closed some after the last few beat downs.

Irrelevant data points are not calculated into my formula
Each team is taken at face value based on their body of work this season

and the Eagles will lose by double digits against the "crappy" Panthers - trust me on this
The Giants have played against only one top 10 ranked rushing offense this season
so determining their ability to stop the run is still somewhat unknown

Nope, dumbest play still goes to the seahawks in the superbowl. :tothehand:

TBH, the packers look beatable. Starting with Seattle and finishing with SD this past weekend, they have not looked anything like a shoe-in for the superbowl. At this point, I would not be shocked if they lose to whoever comes out of the NFC East in the playoffs.

What good wins does Indy have? They have beaten the 3 teams in their crap excuse for a division. They actually don't have any bad losses unless you want to count the Bills as a bad loss (fine with me). Likely to lose their next 3 as well against @Panthers, Broncos, and @Falcons. With Steelers and Dolphins on their schedule still, I can see them winning the division at 7-9 with 6-0 in the division plus a win versus the Buccaneers

Steelers should be fine when Roth comes back and should move to your next group then.

Football focus and other football analysis software models consider
a win against your division rival as "a good win"
Unless YOU don't think making the playoffs is important

:coffee:

Presently the NFL does not evaluate strength of schedule to determine playoff finalists
It simply comes down to wins / and wins against division rivals in matters of equal wins

Got it and that makes sense. Difference between a good win and a quality win.

I was thinking of good win more as an NFL Power Ranking sense (since that is the thread title). Funny thing is according to ESPN Power Rankings, the AFC South has the 18, 29, 30, and 32 best teams (out of 32). Colts wins are against the 29, 30, and 32 best teams so far. (CBS has rankings as 18, 28, 29, 31 for AFC South so pretty close). Lost to 1, 8, 17, and 19 (Pats, Jets, Saints, Bills) Colts are not good but they are in an absolutely horrible division so they make the playoffs, have for years, and will continue to likely for years because that division has been pretty weak overall. Funny thing, is they may lead the division (or at least a tie) with a 3-7 record in 4 weeks after playing @Panthers, Broncos, and @Falcons and a bye stuck in there.

After watching the Pats last night, I really want someone else to come out of the AFC. I really am tired of seeing them win every time and look easy doing it. I pray for someone to beat those smug assholes, please!

Last time they went 18-0, they also went 18-1. So there's that.

So the Giants are going to sneak into the playoffs as a WC and beat the Pats in the SB again? I'll take it! :thumb:

Explain to me what's so smug about the Patriots exactly
I get cheaters / Liars Etc.

but smug..?

The Ravens and Harbaugh are smug (by proper definition)
They have accomplished a little
but speak highly of themselves

at 1-4 Harbaugh when interviewed robustly announced how he perceived no problems
and reiterated how solid they were and how well they were playing

THAT IS SMUG... and they are now 1-6 and done for the season...
Being cocky while actually sucking is SMUG
The Ravens organization and Harbaugh are SMUG

The pats, most times, act smugly rather than talk it. BB and his antics at the press conferences are smug. The entire organization gives off that "we are always wronged" in whatever they are caught doing. First, it's spygate, then deflategate, meanwhile always claiming to be the victim of a dictator (Goodell). Then they continuously run up the score on everyone (which I concede is morally debatable but it does happen). Tom Brady continues to laugh off accusations that he did anything wrong. They give off the vibe that they think they can get away with anything because we are better than you. This has been happening for years, but with this new deflategate, they are exhibiting the same type of smugness as they did when spygate came down on them.

Oh my... I see

So How about our beloved Seahawks and PEDs
Shortly after Pete Carol escaped prosecution after cheating for years at USC
The Seahawks entire secondary is on Ritalin and Adderall and been busted 5 times
but now they all have doctors prescriptions for the outlawed PED

Any team worth a sh!t in the NFL is up to no good - trust me
and any Seahawks fan crying about the Patriots should look hard in the mirror

Wow this got interesting real quick. Please provide sources for any of these accusations. I know sherman got off on appeal and irvin was caught, but go ahead and inform me on who else has been busted for PEDs. Then go down the list of NFL teams who are worth a shit up to no good. Packers? Panthers? Broncos? Steelers? Bengals? Falcons? (remember they actually sucked with crowd noise), hell even the Giants? Cardinals? 49ers? (already mentioned the Ravens so don't have to tell me about them again), Colts?

This is gonna be good. :coffee:

I'm sorry to hurt your feelings but
The Seahawks have long led the league in PED suspensions.
Here’s a list of some recent bans for the use of Ritalin and Adderall.

John Moffitt: Suspended four games in 2011
Brandon Browner: Suspended four games in 2012
Winston Guy: Suspended four games in 2012
Allen Barbre: Suspended four games in 2012
Bruce Irvin: Suspended four games in 2013
Richard Sherman: Tested positive in 2012.
Result overturned due to a problem with the collection procedure...

and this isn't all of them - this is just adderall and Ritalin
again they LEAD THE LEAGUE not just in Defense but in PED suspensions

And NFL investigators guess for every player caught there are about 3 that get away with it
and I'm a Seahawks FAN but they're working the PED system like champs

So there was a PED epidemic with the team. You think Pete Carroll handed them the PEDs or was it that shifty John Schneider? I bet it was Paul Allen actually.

And my feelings aren't hurt, I just need confirmation that any great team is as corrupt as the Pats. You are trying to draw a parallel between the hawks and pats and it simply isn't there.

In other news, where are you dropping the packers after their abysmal loss?

Any other team with those issues and you'd be damming them to be banned from the playoffs. But, it's your beloved Hawks, so it doesn't matter...

Also, Browner was hit twice for PEDs

Actually no I would not. Considering I suspect a lot of players have and are still using PEDs, I could really care less if any team with significant players being caught made the playoffs.

Also Browner was suspended for marijuana, not PEDs.

:suspicious: There is no such thing as running up the score in professional sports.
If you don't want the other team to run up the score on you....try to stop them. If you can't....then you just suck and deserve to have your ass beaten in.
