Haha.

You're so full of shit.

You say your mind was made up based on their demands... ok. 99% sure you didn't know about their demands when you made your first post about them needing to go through proper channels.

This shit has been developing over many months and the students have gone through the proper channels.
Ibanez wrote: This is just ridiculous. If the students have grievances, go through the proper channels. Document the effort. If the administration refuses to hear it, go above them. If that fails, then go it alone. I doubt the students went through all the proper channels.
I'm fairly confident that you hadn't heard of this story before the football team got involved. I sure as hell hadn't.

But, it's clear that the students had worked through proper channels. You are clearly speaking out of your ass. And, your reaction speaks volumes, imo. :coffee:
:ohno:

I hadn't heard about it, I never said I did. Is it clear that the students went to the President (aside from stopping his car?) Did they go to the Board? Did they go through the student government? Can you prove they went through proper channels? Did they try to meet with the school administration? I've read a few articles on this today and so far nothing has suggested anything other than stopping the Presidents car.

I "jumped to a conclusion" based on past experiences. These kids aren't asking for racial equality. They just want something because they are black. More black students? Nothing wrong with that, if they black students that apply meet the standards. Face, the only people in this country that constantly bring up race are blacks (and white trash, to a lesser extent.)

White privilege...what a fucking joke.

I heard about this president being embattled recently because I read the Chronicle of Higher Education online. It was more about finances than racial sensitivity.

What's troubling here that the spark the set off the powder keg is a bunch of petulant football players threatening to go on strike.

Two morons called a black kid, "nigger."

Then that precious, gentle Giant Michael Brown was callously executed on the streets of Ferguson for being black.

Or for robbing a store and assaulting a cop. I get the narratives confused.

Then the black kid becomes MU Student Associate President and lets the world know that he was called, nigger, by whites. But i'm 99.999% positive he's used that term to refer to his black friends.

BOOM!

Like most everyone else, I hadn't heard what was going on until the football team, with the blessing of Gary Pinkel, "went on strike".

I thought to myself...oh shit something's rotten in the state of Columbia here.
After reading everything I could find...that was it. A couple of 'necks (allegedly) called the SGA president the N-bomb and bruised his widdle vagina with their words, and someone (don't know what race) smeared a swastika with human feces on a dorm bathroom door (maybe there was a Joo in the building  ). I guess the straw that broke the camel's back (no offense to you Muslins out there) was that the car the president was riding in during the homecoming parade bumped into one of the protesters (when the protester jumped in front of the car when it was trying to go around their little human barricade).

I said to myself, there has got to be something more. I read a few articles about people whining about finances, cuts, crying about the president coming from the private sector, no experience in academic administration, etc. The poor guy, who is probably as liberal as they are, had to become the effigy. :?

A pair of Republican state lawmakers joined the call for University of Missouri Systems President Tim Wolfe to resign.

“The lack of leadership Mizzou has been dealing with for months has finally reached the point of being a national embarrassment,” state Rep. Caleb Jones, a Columbia Republican, said Sunday. “It's time for a change in leadership and start the healing process.”

Rep. Steve Cookson, a Republican from Poplar Bluff who chairs the House Higher Education Committee, joined Jones later in the day with a statement calling for Wolfe to either resign or be fired, even hinting at some sort of legislative action if Wolfe is allowed to remain.

“It has become clear that the MU system leadership can no longer effectively lead and should step aside,” Cookson said. “Failing that the University of Missouri system board of curators should force a change in leadership. Failing this common sense approach it will be incumbent for the governor and the General Assembly to take the appropriate steps to protect this important public asset.”

From your article:
Evening of Nov. 5: Students reschedule a football game protest for Monday, citing security reasons.

Members of Concerned Student 1950 planned to hold the protest after Missouri’s football game Thursday night. Nearly 100 protesters gathered in the basement of the MU Student Center that night, but decided the circumstances — mixing with “drunk white people” after the Tigers’ loss — could lead to an unsafe protest. Details about Monday's protest have not been announced.

I meant faculty, not students, as demanded. Sorry, used the wrong word.

And, why not go above MU? There is a Board of Trustee's, the State Legislature, etc...

I get it, I do. It's 2015 and a person shouldn't have to endure listening to some idiot yell out "nigger". Just like I shouldn't have to listen to bullshit about "white privilege" because I was born white.

 Acknowledging reality doesn't make me racist. You can dig your head in the sand, but you grew up in the South. You know what it's like here. There are reasons stereotypes exist, they are exaggerated truths. So, call me racist b/c I said blacks will line up outside a fast food restaurant that serves chicken. That's fine, it's a truth that I see almost every day. Just like I see poor white trash living in filth in trailers.

I'll continue to judge people based on their actions, despite what some hick on the internet things. The ACTIONS of this group, speak volumes.

They feel the system is racist, and it may be. But from everything I've read, it seems the students are the problem (the ones using slurs.)

Wolfe met with them twice, and the last time saying he would combat it. The protesters don't accept his statement. Wolfe did a piss poor job of handling it, for sure, apologized and they still weren't happy? Demand #1 is an apology from Wolfe. Based on the past, I'd say these protesters wouldn't accept that. They've already refused him twice.

All this bullshit because some people yelled, "nigger." It's a fucking word that is said every hour in the black community. Stop giving others power over you with that word.

Exactly. A bunch of peckerwoods ( I can say that, I'm white) yelled "nigger" and this guy got upset (it's a stupid word but I get it's meaning.) He should take it up with the people calling him out. The President screwed up, but he tried to make amends.

Sounds like mistakes have been made all around, on both sides.

Hey Skelly, I was called a "fish eater" in High School and pelted with raw fish because I am Catholic and attended a Catholic HS. Should I have demanded the principal of Porter Gaud to apologize and quit over the actions of a few students?

2. We demand the immediate removal of Tim Wolfe as UM system president. 6. We demand that the University of Missouri composes a strategic 10-year plan on May, 1 2016 that will increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.

7. Missouri has one of the shittiest offenses in all of FBS. If they had gone on strike, who would have noticed?

And those ludicrous (Ludacris?) "demands" could've been written by Michelle Obummer herself.
