Pops and Moms both are Republicans. We argue about politics all the time. I gave my dad the new Ron Paul book and he's yet to read it.

It's funny, when I was a senior in HS one of my teachers told me when I went to college I'd become a liberal. Oddly enough, I'm farther right than parents (being a libertarian), but they see me as more liberal.

I also am a second generation citizen... one of my grandfathers came over as a child and trained officers in WWII... including Ben Hogan. My grandfather was an avid golfer and said it was the best times of his life "training" Ben Hogan... i.e. playing golf.

Anyway, my dad rode a tomato truck to Woodstock... believes in the conspiracy theory that Nixon was set up by the CIA and thinks his biggest failure as a parent was when he found out one of my brothers voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004.

I could accept my kids being most things... just not Republicans...

I make a big (mostly humorous) deal about Conks being afraid to abandon their parents' Conkiness for fear of being written out of the mansion-lake home-seven-Hummers-and-yacht inheritance. But, what were/are your parents' pol leanings?

Grandpa Cat, mine and D1B's father and a wonderful man, was a hardcore Catholic Conk in his last twenty five+ years, but I can remember him being a big separation of church and state guy early on when he told me at about age 12 that he was even uncomfortable with the St. Charles, IL, school district providing bus service for us to St. Pat's school there.

Grandma Cat just voted as he did, Conk all the way, until last year, when she got sick of Conkiness due to Busch and voted for Obama, God bless her soul.

I'm assuming this was pre Orland Park because St. Charles is quite the haul from Orland or wherever you went to high school.

St. Charles (lived in rural Elgin, but went to school in STC) from '73 to '79. Moved to Orland Park in 1979. Graduated From Tinley Park Andrew in '81. D grad'd Andrew in '84.

MY Grandparents were all Dems as far as I know.

My moms dad came of age in the great depression and worked in the CCC camps of the new deal. He was a Democrat for life and cant say that I blame him.

My mom is a dem because that is what she has always been and doesnt really care to change.

My dad had been registered as a democrat his whole life, but lately he does not like what is going on with the part and his views have become much more conservative.

As for me -- I believe a would consider myself a Libertarian at this point. I believe in limited govt. and individual rights.

I don't like Cheney, Rummy, Rove or Limbaugh either, I find them arrogant and polarizing. I"ve only listened to Limbaugh once or twice in my life. It's not that I don't care for this country or the people that don't have as much it's that I disagree with people who are more liberal about the government's role and effectiveness in helping people. We need to tune out the Limbaughs on both fringes because they're just fomenting distrust, hatred and closed minds.

My dad is a Republican, he isn't too far right but he'll listen and watch the conservative talk shows. He never seems to get too worked up though. My mom is definitely more independent, but usually votes Republican from what I can tell. My grandparents on her side are probably the definition of independent voters, they always pick whoever they like the most. My Grandpa probably voted for Kerry in 04 and McCain in 08. My grandparents on my dad's side are Democrats, they lived through depression and no doubt have a lot of respect for FDR.

I'm much more moderate than my dad, I do lean right , but I don't vote party line and will never join any political party.
