Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
Looks Iike Charleston Southern and Citadel are both gonna be in. CSU auto bid. Citadel at large after a huge SEC win.
Has there ever been 2 playoff teams from the same city before? I know...CSU is actually in North Charleston, but it's the Charleston Metro area as defined by the US Census.
Trying to think....and I can't think of it ever before. Not sure how many cities even have 2 FCS teams. The old Boston University and Northeastern U maybe? I was thinking maybe Florida International and Florida Atlantic before they moved up. Samford and UAB before UAB moved up.

Yes.
Old Dominion & Norfolk State were both in a few years ago.

El Cid and The College of Charleston are in the same city.

Technically CSU is in North Charleston, not Charleston.

In any case the answer is "yes" because of Norfolk State and Old Dominion both making it to the playoffs in 2011. Good catch by Mvemjsunpx .
Now the question is:
Is the committee going to have The Citadel play CSU i the first round like it did with Norfolk Stat and Old Dominion then? Guess that depends on if CSU gets a seed. Either way there's a pretty good chance they're going to end up playing each other. I actually think that'd be pretty cool and hopefully the people of the Charleston area would show up for that game.

I'd be surprised if CSU didn't get a seed at this point. The Citadel might, too, but their losses to CSU & UTC put a low ceiling on them.JohnStOnge wrote:In any case the answer is "yes" because of Norfolk State and Old Dominion both making it to the playoffs in 2011. Good catch by Mvemjsunpx .

Yea, there is a big difference between Charleston and North Charleston.
And last time I looked CofC didn't have a football team.

Perhaps CSU should substitute a geography class for one of the religious ones.

CSU and El Cid played in the regular season. I thought you couldn't have that matchup in Round 1.JohnStOnge wrote:In any case the answer is "yes" because of Norfolk State and Old Dominion both making it to the playoffs in 2011. Good catch by Mvemjsunpx .

Charleston would be a better venue for a CSU/Citadel and/or Coastal/Citadel game. Charleston has more, the Citadel fans aren't the greatest travelers (Coastal is) and you could get a great environment in Johnson Hagood.

Ah thanks forgot ODU was FCS for a bit. It's official....Coastal vs Citadel and winner goes to CSU.JohnStOnge wrote:In any case the answer is "yes" because of Norfolk State and Old Dominion both making it to the playoffs in 2011. Good catch by Mvemjsunpx .

And yeah...if Citadel wins...the folks of Charleston are showing up. CSU had better find a way to rent about 10,000 bleachers or something, or, sadly, rent The Citadels stadium for our own home game haha!! We won't be able to host the Citadel with current seating. May not be able to host Coastal again depending on how many come down from Myrtle.

Re: Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
Yeah I'm aware...it's why I clarified that in the original post. South Carolina annexation laws create some odd city limits configurations....for example....Mount Pleasant is technically a bigger city than Greenville...despite Greenville being, by far, the states largest metro area. So Mauldin and Greer and Simpsonville aren't technically "Greenville", but anyone from there or visiting just sees it as Greenville. Heck....the Air Force refers to their base as "Joint Base Charleston" even though it's in North Charleston and Goose Creek.Ibanez wrote:You're in the same county..not city.bucs90 wrote:Looks Iike Charleston Southern and Citadel are both gonna be in. Re: Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
My guess is the AD is already putting out feelers for the temporary seating.

Re: Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
I'm sure be has been since the LU game. Last year vs Citadel at home it was like 6000 or 7000 I think and no offense to Citadel....but they weren't sky high on school spirit (or revenge) like they would be if they came back in 2 weeks. My guess is we could sell 6000 just to Citadel fans. Another 4000 or 5000 to our own.CSUBUCDAD wrote:My guess is the AD is already putting out feelers for the temporary seating.
AD needs to find a way to aquire another 8000 seats somehow. Capacity at 10000 would be enough. 12000 to be safe. Coastal probably about the same.
It would be an absolute embarrassment to get a "home game" and not be able to play it at home. We just got $500,000 from Alabama. That is enough to rent bleachers for this thing.

Respectfully as I can say it, your whole stadium is an absolute embarrassment, hope you can make some more improvements soon. Your coach should be FCS coach of the year for sure. Congratulations on the seed, really hoping you do better than I am guessing. Classy coach and players.
Re: Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
Thanks. However...it's not THAT bad. It's really bad for a top 25 FCS team for sure. But with the new additions the last 5 years...it's improved quite a bit. We badly need to pave the entire interior where people walk and permanently fix the away side. But I've seen far worse even in FCS and many in D2. Jacksonville U probably worst in FCS. Newberry here in SC is pretty bad.kendradad wrote:Respectfully as I can say it, your whole stadium is an absolute embarrassment, hope you can make some more improvements soon. That said....yeah...it's bad. Especially visitor side. But we're fixing it.
Thanks for the kind words though. I also hope we live up to the seed....although beating either Coastal or Citadel twice in same season is gonna be very difficult.

This. I would've invested in stands and facilities over lights and turf. My sister goes to CSU and complains how fiscally irresponsible/ignorant the school is.kendradad wrote:Respectfully as I can say it, your whole stadium is an absolute embarrassment, hope you can make some more improvements soon. I get what you're saying. However in terms of giving a location, your saying "We're in Charleston. Well, actually we are 20+ miles OUT of Charleston."bucs90 wrote:Yeah I'm aware...it's why I clarified that in the original post. North Charleston has some wonky borders.
Oh, and it's Joint Base Charleston b/c it refers to Charleston Metro area.

Re: Has FCS ever had 2 playoff teams in same city before?
I don't know. Playing 1pm sucked due to the heat. That had to change with lights so we could boost student and alumni attendance. No way in 2011 and 2012 we would've anticipated so many overflow crowds.Ibanez wrote:This. I would've invested in stands and facilities over lights and turf. As for the schools fiscal policy....ever since I went there they refuse to be in debt. Better or worse.
