Another thing he said - which makes me wonder who the hell is briefing him - is that he will direct DHS to take a close look at the visa waiver program that allowed this woman into the country.

She did not come in on the visa waiver program. That is a non-immigrant visa program that allows people from qualifying countries to come to the US without a visa. It is the same reciprocal program that allows all of us to hop on a plane to those same countries (like the UK and Germany) without a visa.

Malik (a fake name, BTW) came in on a K1 fiance visa, which is a hybrid nonimmigrant visa which switches status in the US to immigrant status once the beneficiary marries the petitioner.

It was a "WTH?" moment in his speech. All it would have taken was a simple brief from the State Department, but it seems like whoever wrote that speech just made that part up on the fly to give him something to say.

ISIL references the Levant, which includes the territory of Israel. He is basically saying Israel has no business existing.

I don't think you should agree with that. I think the idea that a "tiny fraction" of Muslims hold the basic outlook ISIL or ISIS or whatever you want to call it holds is VERY questionable by any reasonable standard for what "tiny fraction" means.

I also really question the idea that the ones causing all the problems are following some "perverted" idea of Islam. I think there's a real possibility that THEY are the ones following what Islam actually is.

I harken to hearing George Mitchell recently referring to people like that as following Islam "as it was practiced at the time of Muhammed."

So if the ones causing the problems are following it as it was at the time of Muhammed, are THEY the ones that are not really following what Islam is?

There are roughly 2 billion muslims in the world.

You need to get into the realm of ISIS = "tens of millions" of people for ISIS to not be a "tiny fraction."

Right. I'm trying to live my life. Suddenly a group of people come up with a regulation that says I should be killed or must convert if I do not currently believe their regulation.

Because they have now gone on record as saying I must be killed unless I convert, and I don't want to convert, I must kill them before they kill me.

He's playing to the darkest fears and coming from a position of strength and the rest of the field's response (except Rand Paul) is to go all Chamberlain/religion of peace stuff.
