Bring Replacement Refs Back!!!
There was such a "fake" outcry over the simultaneous possession Hail Mary play in the Seahawks-Packers game a few years ago. How does the NFL explain the botched no-call last night that gifts the Seahawks a victory over Detroit??

I think the ref just flat out forgot the rule, and after about 30 seconds or so, it was too late for him to change the call in front of the mob of baristas.

Baristas can't afford Hawks tickets. It'd be more like a Revenge of the Nerds scenario.CAA Flagship wrote:I think the ref just flat out forgot the rule, and after about 30 seconds or so, it was too late for him to change the call in front of the mob of baristas.

Re: Bring Replacement Refs Back!!!
Well at least we'll never have to hear Packers fans say "Fail Mary" again after last nights gift.
Face mask? Please - not even close. Rodgers is one of 3-4 QB's that even get that call. If Sam Bradford or Ryan Fitzpatrick or David Carr are the QB on that last play the flag is never thrown.

Even on the slow motion feed the thumb was pulling against the facemask all of about a quarter of a second, if that. Aaron Rodgers basically gets away with football versions of a flop - even kept his head tucked into his shoulder to make it look like his facemask was being yanked. And I agree, Rodgers gets that call, Brady does, Manning used to before he got old but he might get it, and probably Brees gets that call. Any other QB and there's no chance. That should be a "Come on Man" segment next week.bluehenbillk wrote:Well at least we'll never have to hear Packers fans say "Fail Mary" again after last nights gift.

There is without question a hierarchy of NFL Quarterbacks...
Colin Keapernick does NOT get that call
I've seen Flacco take very late hits - and REF's do nothing
Teddy Bridgewater got popped in the head - nothing happened

Agreed with everything stated here but all that said, who taught the Lions how to defend a hailmary? You are not supposed to put all of your defenders behind the wide receivers so the WRs can easily catch the ball.

Right. The face mask call was bad, but it's almost as if the Lion defenders were thinking "we can't let them catch it out the back of the endzone, right!?"tribe_pride wrote:Agreed with everything stated here but all that said, who taught the Lions how to defend a hailmary? Yup. And rush more than three people. The Lions have perfected snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. Yet, I still pay attention.tribe_pride wrote:Agreed with everything stated here but all that said, who taught the Lions how to defend a hailmary? Re: Bring Replacement Refs Back!!!
Local sports radio here made some good points. At regular speed, there's not anyone who would have thought that wasn't a face mask. It could have been Case Keenum and it would have been called.
On replay, slowed down, it's another story. But penalties are not reviewable so there's no reason whatsoever to blame the officiating.
And if Rogers play-acted the turning of the head, he is the greatest split-second actor/athlete in the history of the world!

According to http://www.payscale.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that's 20K more than it would be in this part of the country. 50K for a schmuck making coffee is still a decent amount, but COL dwindles that pretty quick outside of being a "big number"Chizzang wrote:Never forget: Baristas make $70K in SeattleGrizalltheway wrote:

Nah, Rogers flopped with his play acting on the facemask. Again, QB's not named Rogers or Brady or Manning wouldn't get that call.SuperHornet wrote:The end of that game was legit, guys.

Re: Bring Replacement Refs Back!!!
Two defenders are closing on him, he tries to dodge the first who turns his whole upper body as he glances the facemask and grabs on to the shoulder and goes down short of the second defender who's about to hit. Watch it in both full speed and slow-mo. It was bam, bam. No way in hell that was acting.GannonFan wrote:Nah, Rogers flopped with his play acting on the facemask. Re: Bring Replacement Refs Back!!!
Stop it, he flopped. He had the initial glancing hit and then he tucked his head into his shoulder for an extended period of time, as the guy was pulling his shoulder, to make it look like he had the facemask. And then he turns around and calls for the facemask penalty instantly after he hit the ground. If he was a basketball player he would have been on his butt crying for the charging foul. He knew what he was doing, not sure why people are so shocked that someone would play act for a call, he's certainly not the first nor the last to do so.kalm wrote:Two defenders are closing on him, he tries to dodge the first who turns his whole upper body as he glances the facemask and grabs on to the shoulder and goes down short of the second defender who's about to hit. Yes...at the end of multi-lateral play at full speed with 2 defensive lineman bearing down and trying to duck both while one swipes the front of his face mask and grabs his shoulder, clearly turning his entire upper torso...GannonFan wrote:Stop it, he flopped.
