I don't know how this can turn around. He did well at Auburn and there are rumors that Marcus Lattimore may return as a coach. Will Muschamp is embracing all the lofty expectations he faces in his new job at South Carolina. They are the same championship aspirations that led to his firing at Florida.
Muschamp promised to again strive for the very best in his second go-around as an SEC coach when he was introduced to the Gamecocks community after university trustees approved his 5-year, $16 million contract earlier Monday morning.
Muschamp's contract pays him $3 million in the first year, increases each year by $100,000 and contains a variety of incentives that could net him another $1 million. In addition, Muschamp is still being paid $1.26 million by Florida in five installments.

So is Elliott out as well? If so, he might be a good fit for an FCS Head Coaching job.

That doofus drew two penalties for berating refs in the Iron Bowl, and he underachieved at Florida. USC could have done better.

South Carolina isn't exactly a highly coveted job.
Muschamp doesn't have a flawless resume, but I'm not sure who they could have gotten that has a better one.
Also, hard to believe that Mark Stoops is the longest tenured coach in the SEC East.

Re: Will Muschamp the New Gamecocks HC
If he makes a smart choice for OC he'll do well enough to not get fired…he might even end up coaching there for the rest of his career. At Florida Brent Pease was just not a good fit for OC and after Muschamp got rid of him he really only had 1 year to try and transition to Kurt Roper's no-huddle scheme.

Whatever your qualms are with the SEC, you can't deny that the SEC is one of the top conferences.Skjellyfetti wrote:South Carolina isn't exactly a highly coveted job.

I'd have to believe they start to tilt the other way when you look at more recent numbers. BTW, you forgot:Ibanez wrote:Whatever your qualms are with the SEC, you can't deny that the SEC is one of the top conferences.Skjellyfetti wrote:South Carolina isn't exactly a highly coveted job.

No, I didn't forget Ivy. Eh. I'd put South Carolina in the group at the bottom of the SEC with Vandy, Kentucky along with Mississippi State.Baldy wrote: Any head coaching gig (with exceptions to Vandy or Kentucky) in the SEC is highly coveted.
It's just not a top program - and a coach like Muschamp is about the best that they could hope to do.
What better coaches out there do you think they would have had a legitimate shot at getting?
Do you think they could have hired Kirby Smart over Georgia, for example?

Bronco Mendenhall went to Virginia. He a 10X better option than Muschamp. I'm sure if SC was interested in him, Mendenhall would have gone to SC before Virginia.Skjellyfetti wrote:Eh. The past 2 years have been rough however they won the SEC title in 2010 and finished in the Top 25 in 2000, 2001, 2010-13. 2011-2013 were all 11 win seasons,Skjellyfetti wrote:Eh. Lou Holtz inherited a young and weak SEC team in 1999 but was able to have good seasons in 2000 and 2001. Spurrier, the best coach we've had since joining the SEC, took us to bowl wins, a conference title win, 5 straight wins against Clemson (including one when Clemson was #6). 2011 was the most successful year for Gamecock football. Under Spurier we won 5 of the 9 bowl games we played in.
I'd say we're in the "meaty part of the curve."
