Of course our economy keeps growing...and our lower class has more things than most every middle to wealthy class around the world.

Food, a roof over their heads, running water, medical care, phones, shoes, drugs, TVs, guns...you name it. Yup, our lower class lives like kings and queens (no homo) compared to how lower class people live around the world...and compared to how lower class people used to live in our own country.

We're doing OK.

However, wealth envy is still bigger here than anywhere else. When most of the selfish working people are actually out contributing to the economy, our most productive class of people has access to daytime drama TV shows and the commercial advertising that goes along with it. And, with the frontal lobe capacity of a five year old, the masses of our best peeps routinely believe it is unfair that they don't have the latest and greatest gizmos, so they complain to their mothers and fathers that they are entitled to everything...now!

OK, who are we kidding...their fathers haven't been around since their semen shot out into the vag-o-matic-I-want-a-baby-and-benefits mother, so it is left up to Uncle Sam to provide the goods. And by Uncle Sam, I mean the rest of the selfish people who bother working.

The working folks, who don't want to be poor, have fewer and fewer kids, while the black hole class continues to pop out the kids at a high rate because the more kids they have the more money they get to take from the people that have to try to balance a budget.

It is a wonderful system we have, ain't it?

If you go to the Doctor and they classify you as "average" in height or weight that's what they're doing. If you get your kid's standardized test score from school and they say they scored in the average range that's what they're doing. So on and so forth. So when you define middle class as I do it can't "shrink." It's always the middle 68 percent.

And then I say that the middle 68 percent of today is materially better off in terms of incomes and stuff than the middle 68 percent of the 1970s was. And I'm right. If you honestly spend some time looking at it it's not really in question. The people in that group today have higher incomes, have more stuff, are about as likely to own a home, have bigger houses when they own them, are more likely to have their kids attend college, have better access to health care, enjoy better health care when they access it, etc. It's not even close.

The middle 68 percent of the population is way better off today than it was in 1971 and it's ridiculous to say otherwise.

No. That's why I say "middle 68 percent" instead of "within one standard deviation of the mean." If you DO have a normal distribution + or - one standard deviation of the mean contains 68 percent. But since I know the income distribution is not normal I just say that it's the middle 68 percent.

It's not a Poisson distribution though. It's just a skewed distribution.

I've always said that people assign way to much credit and way too much blame to Presidents with respect to stuff like this. I found a little bit wider information set at https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income/ ... household/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. If you want to reference what I'm looking at go to the Table H-3 area and click on the "All Races" link. Then go to the table headed, "2014 DOLLARS."

The table spans 1967 through 2014. You can't get the middle 68 percent exactly but you can get the middle 60 percent by looking at Second, Third, and Fourth Fifths. And when you do that you can see that the average household income for those three groups were $27,481, $43,878 , and $61,390 in 1967 in 2014 dollars vs. $31,087, $54,041, and $87,834 in 2014. So you can see that the middle 60 percent was much better off in terms of inflation adjusted income in 2014 than it was in 1967.

You can also see that there have been ups and downs over the period but the general trend has been up. I don't think it can be ascribed to any particular president.
