We bought our previous two cars from a Larry H Miller dealership in Spokane. LHM owns 54 dealerships throughout the west and is based in Utah. We bought our Yukon from locally owned Becker GMC.

I think it was to show that private enterprise would handle the driverless car issue. My contention is that no company would be willing to take this on because of the liability issues. There WILL be accidents where civilians other than the car owner will lose their lives. Who would insure it?

Sure, but other than Carmax, most brick and mortar car dealers are local. Some have a few locations, but are still local. When was the last time you played in a golf outing that didn't have a local car dealer sponsor something? I personally know three car dealers. They are all local guys.

BTW Walmart employs a LOT of local people in areas where there aren't many other jobs. I'm sure you don't hate that too?

In Spokane, I can think of at least 8 dealerships now owned by out of town companies and the the consolidation appears to be growing just like it has in many industries.

There are pros and cons to on-line sales versus dealerships. What caught liberal's attention (besides the renewable energy aspect) was that dealers were lobbying state legislatures and throwing around their influence to ban on-line sales. Neither sides should care for that type of corruption.

No need to re-hash the Walmart phenomenon. Let's just say that small towns and independently owned businesses are still suffering despite the influx of cheap goods.

It's a tough world, but those land owners, builders, realtors, etc will just have to find somewhere else where they can make a living off of a brick and mortar type store or they will have to put their skills to work doing something else entirely. If you don't adapt and innovate then someone else certainly will.

Not at all, I have no personal feelings to them as a group whatsoever. As a personal shopper, I like going to stores for certain things and I like online stores for other things. My comment was from an economic viewpoint, nothing else.

I guess my point was retail is a huge employer on so many fronts and online sales has taken away a LOT of those jobs. Once they're gone, I don't know how you get them back.
