Since Redskins fans don't have their own thread, here are the scenarios:

Washington is locked in as the fourth seed and will face the top wild-card team in the NFC. The Redskins could host the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings or Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs. Here’s every scenario that can happen in Week 17 to determine the Redskins’ playoff opponent:

For the Seahawks to claim the fifth seed:

Seattle must defeat the Arizona Cardinals on the road and the Packers must beat the Vikings. Green Bay (with a possible 11-5 record) would win the NFC North title and the third seed, while the Seahawks (10-6) would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings (10-6). Minnesota would be the No. 6 seed.

For the Vikings to claim the fifth seed:

Minnesota must lose to the Packers, and the Seahawks must lose to the Cardinals. Green Bay (11-5) would win the NFC North title and the third seed, while the Vikings (10-6) would finish with a better record than the Seahawks (9-7).

For the Packers to claim the fifth seed:

Green Bay must lose to the Vikings. Minnesota (11-5) would win the NFC North title and be the third seed, while the Packers (10-6) would finish ahead of Seattle regardless of whether the Seahawks defeated or lost to the Cardinals.

Per Sal Pal, Lurie met with Kelly this morning to inform him that Kelly would relinquish personnel responsibilities going forward. Meeting did not go well. Kelly was then fired.

Also, the players all found out the same way we did.

The Philadelphia Eagles team decorated a Christmas tree in their locker room to help boost morale late in the season. The ornaments were hung, popcorn chains were strung, and tinsel was draped over the branches. When it was time for the finishing touch, Coach Kelly asked the team president where the star was.

93henfan wrote:If there was ever an indictment of Kelly's standing with Lurie, it had to be the Patriots game. Lurie personally visited the locker room and gave the pregame pep talk, telling the Eagles to "play angry" and they went out and won. Then the next week, t-shirts with "53 Angry Men" printed on the front were placed in each players locker before the Bills game, also won by the Eagles.

Lurie had lost faith in Kelly's ability to motivate the team. He had resorted to cheerleading, which is not Lurie's style at all.

Add in that Kelly let Desean Jackson go for nothing, and then he was celebrating all night on Saturday. Plus Kelly traded Lesean McCoy for a stiff of an Oregon LB (Alonso) and made no offer to retain Jeremy Maclin. Then he completely misuses Demarco Murray.

And he's developed a reputation as a racist among some black players. This after he barely gave Riley Cooper a slap after he was seen on video using the N word.

It just all added up. Easy decision for Lurie.
I don't think it was a hard decision either. Who really saw this team being able to get much better next year with Kelly still at the helm? I didn't have a problem getting rid of LeSean and bringing in Alonso, Murray, and Matthews in his place - LeSean was a year away from being too old anyway, so they got rid of him when they could. Alonso was certainly a bust this year, but Matthews was good. Murray's the odd ball, hard to tell if he was no good or just not being used correctly.

The problem I have, though, is that I think the problem with the Eagles is the culture of the organization, and that isn't fixed by changing the head coach. The owner sets that tone, and clearly Lurie's going nowhere. Even more so, even if they hire a general manager from outside the organization (which I don't think they're going to do, btw, I think the writing's on the wall that it's going to be Howie Roseman back in that role), Lurie and his underlings are the one's really running the show from a personnel standpoint and I'm not sure they can get it done. Sure, I think a new coach will get the Eagles back in the playoffs rather quickly, even as early as next year, but I'm not sure the organization is primed to be a real Super Bowl contender any time soon, if ever, as they are currently structured.

LeSean isn't the reason for the Eagles troubles. Was actually fine getting rid of him when they did, he might not even last another year at this rate. RB's are a very short window of opportunity.

The Eagles have a ton of holes - I wonder how attractive they are for prospective coaching candidates.

Come on, this isn't college and this isn't Cleveland. It's an NFL job in a major US city and it will pay tens of millions of dollars in salary. Couple that with the fact it's in the NFC East and going worst to first (and the Eagles don't even need to do that, they could still finish second in the division) is a pretty common scenario these days and it's not like the Eagles are far away from contending for a playoff spot. Any rising coordinator out there would take the job pretty quickly. And compared to the jobs that will be open (Tennessee, maybe Cleveland, San Fran, Miami) it's still a pretty good option.

Chip Kelly is now officially the all-time leader in winning percentage for Eagles coaches (more than 2 games coached)

He's fortunate Andy Reid had the last few seasons he did in that meaningless stat.

Good ol' One and Done playoff Andy

10-9 in the playoffs with the Eagles
5 NFC Championship games
1 Super Bowl

3 losing seasons in 14 years
8 10+ win seasons

And continuing on with the Chiefs - 2 of 3 years in the playoffs, with Alex Smith.

Alex Smith is a quality quarterback that San Francisco wishes they had back right about now...
Andy Reid is a perfectly fine NFL coach - but his Eagles team was in steady decline after the superbowl loss

you can't go 10-6 then 8-8 then 4-12 and not get fired...

And look where impatience got Philly.

Meanwhile, KC went from 2 wins to 11 wins in Reid''s first season there

KC is getting exactly what we got with Reid: no Super Bowl wins.

That's all that matters.

The Chiefs still haven't won a playoff since Joey Montana was there. And Smith really isn't a bad QB-the Niners would have been much better served by keeping him.

Mmm Hmmm...
Andy Reid the savior of the Chiefs franchise

They might win a playoff game this year
They might be pretty good even next year... then comes the bad draft choices
and the bloated contracts for aging players

Andy has about 3 more seasons in Kansas City - and the team will be a shambles

Impatience? The Eagles had Andy Reid as head coach for 13 years. How is that impatient?

Yeah, that comment made no sense. Reid had every opportunity to do whatever he needed to do to win a Super Bowl and couldn't get it done.

I was reading an article about how fast teams are able to turn things around in the free agency era. A few examples:

The Rams went 4-12 the year before winning SB XXXIV.
The Ravens went 8-8 that year and then won SB XXXV the next.
The Patriots went 5-12 that year and then won SB XXXVI the next.

Seven Super Bowl winners had losing records the season prior.

Quick turnarounds aren't difficult in the free agency era. The aforementioned Andy Reid improved the Chiefs from 2-14 to 11-5 in 2013, but he's proven that's about the best he can do. Very good coach, but not great.
