A Memorial Day Reminder To All Americans..

Post by Wedgebuster »

America has been known as the land of liberty, opportunity, strength, and integrity. We have been credited with ingenuity, industriousness, prosperity, and brashness. Americans have been characterized as determined, resourceful, committed, and above all, compassionate, fair, and good in the face of injustice and evil. America was never known to go out and pick a fight, but was known for it's willingness almost down to the individual, to intercede on the side of decency and put an end to conflict wherever it occurs when asked by a friend. We were always seen as invincible, the cornerstone of hope against those who would otherwise enslave the world.

Not anymore.

We have shown our true colors in the modern era. We are spoiled rotten, we care not of anybody but our own little selves, we eagerly barter away our liberty for a false sense of security because our leader tells us we must. We sit by and watch those we put in power ship our industries overseas, we prove time and again that we are up for sale to the highest bidder. We elect politicians out of fear, not strength. We cower in the face of perceived threat of attack to the point of panic at the sight and sound of a low flying aircraft, bawling and blubbering over our cell phones to the delight of third world radicals that have no effective means to harm us other than playing on our fear. We expect the world to respect us still, because of what our grandparents and parents achieved, but show no willingness to stand up and defend ourselves, instead expecting a few of our most devoted young people to carry that load entirely themselves. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for our shortcomings, instead bash each other over their political views, and blame the "other" party. We appear to be willing to hand over the keys to our everything, just to get whatever party that is in power brought down, we cheer radio and television personalities who openly wish for our government to fail.

On this day, this Memorial Day where we honor those who have put everything on the line for the rest of us, for the Constitution of The United States Of America, and for what is right and good, we should stand before the mirror and ask the question, "Am I good enough to uphold what others have given their lives for, am I strong enough to as an individual to say nothing and nobody in the world is scary enough for me to cower with my head under a pillow with a kick me sign on my ass, and happily turn my individual constitutional rights over to anybody, under any circumstances, because somebody tells me to be afraid?"

Are we still American enough to block out the hate of partisan politics that erodes our foundations, to do what is right for our Country out of strength, determination, courage, and conviction? Or will we continue to fight amongst ourselves to the delight of our detractors and elect our leaders out of fear?

Are we responsible enough to live within our means, get ourselves out of debt, and set an example for our politicians to do the same? Are we mature enough to accept our fair share of blame and stop just blaming others? Are we American enough to stand up and fight for ourselves and not wait for somebody else to do it for us?

Until we do, perhaps we are not worth defending, and surely we are not "The Land Of The Free And The Home Of The Brave."

Brilliant rant! Most of it is dead on. :thumb:

Why do you make such a brilliant rant as if you were a paleo-conk, Wedgie, when you are consistently one of the worst offenders against the values you espouse in your epistle?!??

Definitely a thank you goes out to everyone - past, present and future - that has given service and/or the lives for this country.

As a side note, the first "decoration day" was in Charleston, SC a year before the Waterloo, NY Decoration day which is credited as the first.

Hey TomFool, a true Patriot and American should see their country for all its faults. We've sold out the men and women that fought to make us great. There isn't anything wrong with being realistic in that sense. I'd love to meet someone that isn't a hypocrite in any way, shape or form.

Hey, "Moderator," a true patriot does indeed see the bad, ALONG WITH THE GOOD.
A true patriot engages his or her BRAIN to make sure that what is seen clearly is also understood clearly.
A true patriot gives credit where credit is due.
A true patriot maintains a modicum of honesty, decency and respect.
A true patriot does not make up and repeat anti-American BS.
A true patriot does not believe anti-American BS without question and call it "realistic."
A true patriot is willing to admit mistakes and take corrective action.
A true patriot does not steal from his or her neighbors.
A true patriot makes sacrifices for others before asking others to sacrifice.

YOU may have sold out the men and women with whom I served for 25 years. I have not.

No offense to Wedgebuster or anyone else on this thread. I stated that WB's post to kick off this thread was brilliant, and I meant it.

But before I posted the coda to my initial response to this thread, I read the last several dozen of Wedgebuster's political posts and could not find even one post that lived up to the high-mindedness of his Memorial Day wishes.

I challenge anyone to reproduce a Wedgebuster political post which embodies the sincerity, decency and patriotism of his Memorial Day post to start this thread. Show me a post to prove me wrong and I will admit my mistake.

P.S. A "moderator" does not call names, take sides and behave like a smart@$$ punk.

I don't think you can judge a person's patriotism based on some message board postings.
And people can differ on what THEY believe to be patriotic. I think we ALL are patriotic, and have the best interests of the country at heart. I would argue that a true patriot does not blindly accept or not question what is presented before him. Sometimes, the truest patriotism is opposing what your government is doing.

And to the moderator issue: We do not hide behind fake names. Moderation at CS is limited to spam removal, merge threads, moving threads to proper forum, etc. Moderators are not here to limit speech, and the speech of the moderator is not limited either.

I agree with nearly all of what you are saying about patriotism, dbj, and I explicitly said some of the same things you just said in my post.

I did not claim that Wedgebuster is unpatriotic. My objection is that Wedgebuster's posts do not meet his own criteria, such as "...compassionate, fair, and good in the face of injustice and evil..."

In fact, Wedgebuster's posts are the epitome of that which he supposedly disparages: "...Are we still American enough to block out the hate of partisan politics that erodes our foundations, to do what is right for our Country out of strength, determination, courage, and conviction? Or will we continue to fight amongst ourselves to the delight of our detractors and elect our leaders out of fear?..."

In his political posts, Wedgebuster does not live up to his own standards. Not even once! Prove me wrong.

It's not my site so I do not get to define moderator roles. But unless you are changing the rules, I do get to add my $0.02. At a bare minumum, even for a "free speech" site, moderators should refrain from the more egregiously rude behavior allowed of the participants. It's BS to say that the mods don't hide behind fake names, because everyone uses a fake name.

I think what Jon meant was that the we know who the moderators are. I've been on sites where the mods have two accounts - one under their mod name (i.e Mod86), and another under their site personality name (i.e. BlueHen86). You might engage another member in an argument not realizing that the member was also a Mod.

Okey Dokey, but it's like the same person trying to play, coach and referee all in the same game.

At least we do not have a vacuous idiot named "SE" on this board.

Not really - (as far as play, coach, etc).

Yes, moderators should be held to a little bit higher standard, but should not be muzzled. They should NOT abuse their power against those they do not like.

But, I will not stop my posting of opinions because I am one :)

Dear Native, please retract about the mods. They do a great job of letting everyone speak freely and I have no problem if they speak freely themselves. They do not set up a separate set of rules for themselves and the unwashed masses. As long as that is the case we should not fix something that is not broken. They should have the same right to be a dumbass as the rest of us.

Wedgie likes to poke the hornet's nest. It drives discussion and he does a good job of keeping the vehicle fueled. I have met him on more than one occasion and he is a real man's man with an intellect that leads me to believe that the post that started this thread reflects more of his true nature than any other posts on political matters that I have seen.

The problem as far as I see it is that this nation is too far gone as far as giving up our liberties for safety. Take a look at any parks or playgrounds from you childhood. They are empty most of the time and when there are kids playing there they have their parents there to monitor everything that goes on. I can't imagine having my mom or dad around me constantly when I was growing up. Since most are being brought up that way now with the constant security blanket that extends well into adulthood I don't know how it will ever revert back. The safety over freedom angle is here to stay unfortunately.

I don't really care what the mods do, as long as they don't ban me. Everybody deserves a chance to complain about the referees!

Some players are superstars, some players do their jobs game in and game out, some play well off the ball, some are wannabees, and some are merely spectators.

You nailed it with Wedgie, although I disagree with you on the mod thingy.

Wedgie is a donk in conk clothing. CLAIMS he's a conk, but you'd be hard-pressed to find ONE post by him, anywhere, that would verify that claim.
And you still haven't figured me out Tom, shame on you!!

Yeah, wolf hating, gun toting, individual rights, states rights donk me!! LMAO!!

For the last time you labelers, labels do not adhere to my fur, why? Because I am not a follower, I am the leader of my one man army. May not attract much attention but unlike those of you that cowtow to a certain party, or party leader, or religion, or what ever, which results in the same view..........

"If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes"...

I prefer the fresher air and new scenery along the way.

Carry on serfs, don't lose sight of that big smelly brown eye in front of you!!

I recognized you as a lone wolf right away. Nice ass by the way.
